Listen to AM radio with this MP3 player

Fans of AM radio have largely been left out in the cold by MP3 player manufacturers. The excuses are many, but the main reason most device makers avoid the feature is due to the relatively large space required of an AM antenna, thus inhibiting the overall compactness of the final product. PoGo Products briefly came to the rescue with a line of AM-friendly MP3 players, but the company ceased production of the line after only a few years. Filling the void is the C. Crane Witness AM/FM MP3 Player, a basic radio-cum-MP3 player reminiscent of the Radio YourWay LX. Even with its throwback design and monochrome display, the Witness will cost you a pretty penny--US$229.95 for 2GB--but AM radio fans have little other choice, and will likely be plenty pleased with the features on offer. Nintendo DSi in action

Jeff Balakar  |  Oct 28, 2008
Shortly after rumors began to surface about a Nintendo DS successor, the company officially announced that the next Nintendo handheld would be called the DSi and will include two bigger screens, two cameras, and would be 12 percent slimmer than the DS lite (at the expense of the Game Boy Advance slot). But perhaps what's most exciting about the DSi is the addition of a DS Store, where you'll be able to download games directly to the device (which will also have an SD slot). For a look at the new DSi and its store, watch the video below.

iDive 300 for more iPod lurve underwater

Juniper Foo  |  Oct 23, 2008

Now that the iDive 300 is here to save the day, you won't have to suffer separation anxiety when you next go scuba diving without your iPod. As its name indicates, this goes down to 300ft, with waterproof housing for the over-the-ear speakers designed to be tucked under a dive hood or mask strap. The case is see-through, so you can even catch 20,000 leagues under the sea while ascending slowly from a deep dive. An integrated microprocessor adds convenient push button control of the Click Wheel and touchscreen, powered by three AA batteries. But you'll likely have to raid Davy Jones' locker to pay for the wallet-crunching US$349.99 price tag.

X-mini goes BLU

Remember those X-mini and X-mini Max capsule speakers that we Craved about previously? Well, they're about to get a sibling of sorts. Singapore-based company XM-I will be launching A2DP Bluetooth-enabled stereo headphones, nicknamed X-mini BLU, which can switch from music listening to answer phone calls at a button touch. We haven't had the pleasure of testing this out yet, but going by the X-minis' track record, this ought to deliver on the money.

Specs-wise, this comes with a wireless built-in microphone, a Smart Call Control System which handles the toggling between music and mobile calls seamlessly, a 12-hour playtime and 800 hours on standby. The 72g headset is also foldable with a behind-the-neck design, and is apparently moisture and perspiration-resistant, which at least shows the designers have taken the humidity of the Tropics into consideration, not to mention gym users.

Aiptek's handheld projector

John Chan  |  Oct 22, 2008

Yesterday, we brought you a hands-on with 3M's micro projector. We mentioned that it was a first from a large, well-known technology company because we know of other tiny projectors from smaller brands. The Aiptek PocketCinema V10 is one of those.

Like the MPro110, this handheld projector uses LCoS technology, gives a 640 x 480 resolution, and produces an image up to 50 inches diagonally. Because 3M cannot share with us which companies license its technology, we have no idea if this Aiptek is essentially a rebranded 3M projector.

What we do know is that it does quite a bit more. Aside from just projecting images from laptops and mobile phones, the V10 also has an SD card slot and 1GB of memory internally so you can play images and videos without connecting it to anything. Rounding up the features is a remote control that is also included in the package.

All these extras don't come cheap though, costing about US$488 from Firebox, quite a fair bit more than 3M's US$360 asking price.
