Given its general lag behind the iPod, it makes sense that the Zune would be late in coming to the Gilded Age as well. But if exclusivity is what this limited edition is going for, it will certainly accomplish that--as long as 10 people are willing to buy one.
That's how many of them will be sold in 8GB and 80GB versions, according to MobileWhack, in a partnership between Microsoft and Seattle boutique Goods. No price was given but, if it's more than a few bucks over the usual tag, it'll be too much as far as materials are concerned: It's not real gold.
Even though the whole gadget galaxy sometimes seems to be going retro, every once in awhile we come across a product that actually doesn't want to stay stuck in the past. Case in point: The makers of the iMep video boombox have come up with an updated version of the portable multimedia player that has a more streamlined look and is built to withstand the rigors of today's rough-and-tumble personal entertainment world.
Like the earlier disco model, this new mobile system has a 7-inch LCD, iPod dock, DVD player, and other features, but it also has a "rugged black finish that resists water and outdoor wear", according to its product literature. Of course, this will mean a higher price--US$399 vs. the boombox's US$300. Maybe those old bellbottoms don't look so bad after all.
There have been rumblings about a high-capacity 32GB Zen for the past week because of a leak on the Creative site. Well, the rumors have come to fruition as the Singapore-based company confirms its availability in the Republic.
Originally in 4GB, 8GB and 16GB versions, the card-sized Zen PMP (portable media player) doubles its highest capacity version to max out at 32GB. According to Creative, this makes it the first-ever flash-based player to hit that amount of storage. A cursory online search seems to affirm that, but if you do know of a media player from another brand with that much space, let us know in the comments.
The Zen plays various video and music formats. It also has an SD card slot so you can expand its memory--though with 32GB now, that may be unnecessary. It can be purchased in Singapore from mid-December at S$549. We are still waiting for a response from Creative about its wider Asian availability.
Update: Aside from the 32GB version, Crave UK reported that the company also has a 2GB option available on the UK site. This costs £69 and is not available on the Creative Singapore site. When we last checked, this option doesn't seem to be available on the Creative UK site anymore.
