At last, we have the Venzero Slickr MP3 player in our cold, gadget-lusting grip. The German gadget manufacturer has been taunting us with images of their Slickr MP3 player for months now. We've only just opened the box, but we wanted to share a pre-review glimpse with our loyal readers.
The Slickr sports 2GB of built-in memory along with an SD memory slot. Despite its iPhone-like design, the Slickr does not use a touchscreen, but instead uses button navigation located on the top of the player. The audio player supports MP3, WMA and WAV files, but it doesn't look like it'll take DRM-protected files (we'll see). There's also a radio, built-in speaker, JPEG photo viewer and an AVI movie player. Another selling point on this guy is the built-in MusicMarker feature that records a 10-second sample of any music source and later identifies the artist and title of the song when the Slickr is connected to your computer. I'm not sure how much we would use that feature, but we're curious to see how well it works.
The Slickr will be available in the US later this month for US$129. If you just can't wait, you can order the Slickr directly from the Venzero Web site--expect international shipping fees, however.

It's a sign of the times when precious few MP3 players from traditional big name manufacturers get launched in 2007. Though some are hinting that Apple will be announcing one in August, it's telling when Creative, the firm which used to launch a flotilla of players annually, is now satisfied with just upgrades to old stuff. Somehow we've a sinking feeling that there will be no spectacular hero product from it this year.
The Zen V Plus differs from its predecessors on two things--a white highlight to denote its new 16GB memory status. It's also more expensive (by S$100) than its closest equivalent model, the 8GB version (S$299).
Will Creative ever come up with something innovative like its Zen Vision and Zen Micro again? We are rather hoping it will.

Although some of us are pretty sick of everything iPod, especially because we can't exactly afford to chuck red BlackBerry Pearl out the window and pick up an iPhone, Apple is allegedly coming out with a new product--what else is new?
Gizmodo is reporting that this time Apple's releasing the revamped iPod nano next week. The flash-based device is allegedly going to be called the iPod Touch. The price, according to the blog, will range from US$300 for the 4GB and US$400 for the 8GB.
Honestly, the new iPod nano (if it looks anything like the projected image) is going to be cute and bubbly, but it definitely won't take the spotlight from its much sexier, sophisticated cousin, the iPhone.
However, rumor has it that a new iPhone-like-six-gen iPod (with a touchscreen interface) is set for release early next year, Gizmodo reports. We'll just have to wait and see.
