Hello Kitty iPod speaker: Part two

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jan 23, 2007

Little sister to the dock we mentioned at the tail end of 2006, the New Year has heralded a new speaker to crucify… erm, cute-ify (is there such a word?) the iPod. Besides the endearing pink tones and the cartoon graffiti, this sweet innocent honey comes with a mini figurine to remind us of its feline pedigree. What an absolute darling. Yuck.

Meizu Music Card: That thin slice

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jan 23, 2007

The Music Card is slim to the point of emaciation. At 39 x 81 x 7mm, it's certainly skinny enough to join the anorexic nano crew. Technical details are not firm yet but the player will be making its debut in China by end February. From what little we've heard, the Music Card will feature WMA Lossless support and come in two colors: Black or white. Compare them.

No wee, get Wii

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jan 15, 2007

We know that the Nintendo Wii's popularity has spawned fanatic devotion and wide-eyed desire. Apparently, so did a radio station in Sacramento, California. A participant in the water drinking contest held by the station, "Hold your Wee for a Wii", which challenged contestants to how much water they could imbibe without heading to the toilet, was suspected of death by water intoxication. According to the news report, she claimed to be doing it for her children.

Apple iPhone: The real iPod killer

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jan 10, 2007

To say that we were bowled over by Steve Job's iPhone keynote is an understatement. Try bamboozled, flabbergasted and astounded. Like our three choice adjectives, the iPhone will be three things: Part internet access device, part music player and certainly, part phone.

Jobs was not kidding when he said that the phone has been reinvented. With OSX, a new multi-touch interface, Safari browser, 11.6mm thickness, widgets, 8GB storage and a gorgeous design, who's kidding who? At the keynote, the sharply crisp resolution of the 3.5-inch screen during the Google Maps and New York Times demonstration also caused more than a few jaws to drop.

What's interesting is the multi-touch interface. Claiming to be able to eliminate accidental finger activations and increased accuracy, it looks set to become the holy grail of the touchscreen world and may well replace the Click Wheel when the iPod video is introduced later.

For customers in the US, the iPhone will be available by June. But unfairly, punters in Asia will have to wait till 2008 (no, it's not a typo) before they can put the iPhone through its paces. Talk about being long-awaited.

More iriver goodies: B20, Mplayer, Unit2 and T60

Edvarcl Heng  |  Jan 08, 2007

Beside the W10 and U20 we had reported on last week, iriver will be unveiling four more new products. The first is the T60 which harks back to the form factor of the Toblerone-shaped iFP-1090.

The Mplayer may spell a partnership between Walt Disney and iriver, but we are quite unsure how it works. The B20 is an update of the B10 which featured T-DMB.

We are most excited about Unit2 most of all. Other than the rumored built-in DVD player, Wi-Fi and TV functionalities, it has incorporated a phone function which we have been tipped off about since mid-2006. What's interesting is that the telephony is built into the remote itself. More CES stories.
