Ready for some underwater music? We don't mean the piped-in swimming pool variant, but an MP3 player that actually conducts the entire sonic experience through your cheek bone to the inner ear. As an island where almost everyone learns to swim from young, this should come as a boon to relieve the tedium of swimming up and down lanes. The aquatic SwiMP3 (pronounced "Swim-P-3") is, naturally, fully waterproof and seems held in place by the bundled goggle straps. We're not entirely sure how it's powered, but the 128MB flash device is rated for 30 songs and 4 hours of continuous music--good enough for a solid workout in the pool, and then some.

Had Mary Poppins whipped out her carpetbag today and pulled out a full-sized hat rack, mirror, potted plant and floor lamp--we'd have to say "nahhh, no thanks, sister". Now it's the Japanese thrilling us with technological feats like Mitsubishi Electric's Music Porter, a phone, i-mode terminal, FM radio, audio player, storage device utilizing Memory Stick Duo and camera rolled into a palm-sized device hardly bigger than a deck of cards. Now that's what we call "Supercalifragilisticexpealidocious".

Olympus wasn't kidding when it described its mysterious m:robe as minimalist in design. Showcased at the recent Photokina 2004, we're still wondering if this multipurpose digicam even comes with a shutter button, let alone an optical zoom lens. Since Olympus continues to keep coy about its "musical memory maker", it remains to be seen if a 3-in-1 digital camera, MP3 player and image viewer device will wow and woo the Asian crowd. Fujifilm's been there and done that with its
FinePix 50i. So has Casio with its now-discontinued
Exilim EX-M20 music-playing digicam.
