YouTube made headlines recently with the Apple iPhone, but it looks like LG's partnership with the video-sharing site is going to make YouTube-ing on the iPhone stink.
We all know the 2-megapixel camera on the iPhone doesn't record videos. Nor does it have any MMS capabilities, which suck big time. That means you cannot take a video and upload it instantly onto YouTube. LG's partnership with the popular video-sharing site sounds more promising with a one-click feature on its new mobiles for users to upload their pictures or videos onto the Web site.
The first phone to feature YouTube capability is expected in the second half of the year in Europe. Earlier this year LG also said the upcoming KS10 smart phone will come preinstalled with Google Search, Gmail Mobile and Google Maps Mobile applications.
Tech's latest bundle of joy, the Apple iPhone, has been brought into the gadget world with plenty of clip-on cases and headphone adapters that eager users can show off as soon as they rip the iPhone out of its sleek, black cardboard box.
However, there's still much to anticipate in the way of compatible third-party peripherals like those that have been bestowed upon the iPod, iPhone's suddenly-neglected cousin. Take the iPod shoulder bag and famous iCarta iPod toilet paper holder pictured on the left, for example. Yet it's only a matter of time until our favorite phone accessory manufacturers cook up products for the newest celebrity gadget. Here are some possibilities:
1. Branded iPhone cleaning kit
When spit and a t-shirt corner aren't enough.
2. Battery-operated stylus
Generates enough heat to activate the touch screen, improving typing efficiency for the square-fingered and long-nailed iPhoner users among us. Also relieves repetitive stress for marathon typers.
3. Beeping locater device
It's a US$600 phone; do you want to lose it?!
4. Battery for iPhone port
A slim, external battery that plugs into the iPhone's proprietary USB port would charge 'er up when other electrical outlets are scarce.
5. Bluetooth iPhone remote
For taking self-portraits, navigating through videos, and selecting songs without having to finger-trawl the interface.
If imitation is the best form of flattery, then Apple's ego should be pretty inflated by now.
We all know the Chinese can get rather, erm, ignorant about legal cloning issues and the Meizu's miniOne M8 takes the cake for being an iPhone wannabe. Whether the Cupertino lawyers are going to take this one down is another story. Blogger Rick Martin gives his take on the miniOne M8 in his recent post. What we really like is the purported lower pricing. It's approximately US$263 and US$328 for the 4GB and 8GB models, respectively. And the best part? It's not tied to a darn operator.
Patriots alert, this one is for you. Samsung's launching a limited-edition 3G handset pre-loaded with this year's National Day theme song.
Available at all M1 shops and exclusive distributors from July 14, the limited-edition (though we're not sure exactly how many pieces there are) SGH-Z240 will come decked with a National Day faceplate, a theme songring tone and a certificate of authenticity. Pricing details were unavailable at the time of writing.
The island-state is celebrating its 42nd birthday on August 9 at Marina Bay for the first time after moving out of the National Stadium. Click here to find out more about the event.
But while Daring Fireball may have scooped the Macalope, the horned one has the real scoop. Not only are they getting free iPhones, but the Macalope's sources tell him they're also getting free ice cream tomorrow afternoon.
Who says Steve Jobs is heartless and mercurial?
Mythical beast and rumormonger extraordinaire, the Macalope writes about all things Apple for the CNET Blog Network. Read more at The Macalope: An Apple blog.
