Jabra PRO 9400 and GO 6400 with touchscreen docking stations

Damian Koh  |  Oct 30, 2009

Jabra PRO 9400 series

Deskbound office workers who often have to juggle between their corded phones and mobile devices will probably appreciate the Jabra PRO 9400 and GO 6400 series. The new range of Bluetooth headsets come with a docking base station that has a flip-up touchscreen for switching between landline, mobile and VoIP calls. According to Jabra, these wireless headsets can connect up to three handsets and support Bluetooth, DECT and USB connectivity. The GO 6400 series has an operating range of 25m, while the PRO 9400 series is effective up to 150m. They are available from official distributors and channel partners starting at US$199.

Motorola to launch at least 20 smartphones in 2010

Damian Koh  |  Oct 30, 2009

Is Motorola finally making a comeback?

According to gadget blog Gear Log, Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha said at the launch of the Verizon Motorola Droid that the company will release at least 20 smartphones next year. He initially mentioned vaguely about "multiple tens", but committed to a figure of at least 20 when pressed for clarification.

He didn't say what operating systems these smartphones would run on, although anyone can see that the company is directing most, if not all, of its attention to Android and custom solutions at the moment. Jha said a year ago that Motorola would focus on Android and Windows Mobile, but it's likely the company is waiting for Windows Mobile 7 instead of splitting its resources at this juncture between the two platforms. What do you think?

Apple's headset MP3 player patent

Donald Bell  |  Oct 30, 2009

An Apple patent design shows what would happen if its iPod Shuffle and Bluetooth headset mated.
(Credit: United States Patent Application)

In a future where we're all walking around wondering how our iPod brain implants came to exist, historians can point back to this Apple patent application from 2008 and glimpse the missing link: An in-ear iPod.

Of course, others may see this as simply a Bluetooth headset with integrated memory and audio playback capabilities (music, voice mails). The Orwellian in me, though, is fairly certain this gadget will mark Apple's slow crawl into our skulls. Read the patent's abstract to judge for yourself:

Make easy time-lapse movies with your iPhone

Josh Lowensohn  |  Oct 30, 2009

Watching ice cubes melt is much more fun when you speed it up. iPhone app Timelapser lets you do it right on your phone. (Credit: Josh Lowensohn/CNET)

Time-lapse movies can be a complicated affair, and quite often involve either a lot of special equipment, and/or post-processing skills. For just a buck though, you can use the recently released Timelapser app (link opens in iTunes) to turn your iPhone into a tool that can do this time-bending filming technique using nothing more than the onboard camera.

Depending on what model of phone you have you can use the app to take a picture anywhere from every three seconds to once per half hour. All the while it grabs each frame and stitches it into a movie that's saved on the phone, and that can also be emailed to friends.

HTC Tattoo priced in Asia

John Chan  |  Oct 29, 2009

The HTC Tattoo is the manufacturer's entry-level Android smartphone first announced in September. Most of its specifications aren't groundbreaking, the most interesting being its budget-oriented resistive QVGA display--still quite unusual for an Android device as the majority feature capacitive HVGA screens. Capacitive touchscreens require fingertip contact while resistive ones require a more precise pressure point and are usually used with styli. If you want to draw a comparison, think of it as a smartphone very similar to the HTC Touch2 (our recent review here) equipped with Google's mobile operating system instead of Windows Mobile 6.5.

Today, the company announced the Tattoo's commercial availability in Singapore. This weekend, you will be able to buy it at S$598. The handset will come in silver at retail outlets and exclusively in black from Singapore operator M1 on the-island state. Check back later as we will bring you more information on its availability for the rest of Asia. Get our early impressions on the Tattoo here.

Update: Aside from Singapore, the Tattoo will be available in Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. Check with your local HTC distributor or operator if your country is not listed here.
