The name probably doesn't tell you a lot, but according to Samsung, the AMOLED 12M is the world's first 12-megapixel camera-phone with built-in 3x optical zoom. There were other 12-megapixel handsets before this including the Pixon12 and Sony Ericsson Satio, but the big deal here is the optical zoom feature. This lets you zoom in on the subject without degrading picture quality as compared with digital zoom.
Going by its 115.8 x 56.9 x 16.3mm dimensions, the handset is quite chunky and looks more like a digicam with phone functions. However it redeems itself with a generous shutter button and a mode dial for switching between the various shooting modes. Read more »
It's freshers' week, and the LG GW300 is joining forces with booze and spot cream to keep you from become a pariah--by offering built-in social-networking features and a full QWERTY keyboard. There's a Facebook application built-in, if the hip kids are still into that, now that everyone's grandma is online updating her knitting status on the hour. You can also add shortcuts to your favorite contacts on the Home screen, so you can track each text message like the tiny jewel of human contact that it is.
A 2.4-inch display rounds out the package, and its landscape dimensions give the GW300 a BlackBerry-eque appearance. There's also an FM radio on board, and you can listen via Bluetooth or the standard 3.5mm headphone jack. The GW300 will be coming out in blue on O2 and red on Orange, but there's no word from LG on when we can expect it in shops. We expect a low price to tempt the texters to part with their student loan money. According to LG, the GW300 will not be available in Asia.

Here's another way to flaunt your wealth. So far, all the Vertu phones are candybars, but the new Constellation Ayxta is the first to come in a clamshell form factor. The requisite stainless steel chassis with leather or ceramic accents and sapphire glass typical of the Vertus are still there, so it's not shabby at the very least. Expect the Ayxta to range between 4,900 euros and 6,500 euros and you also get the traditional Concierge one-year service to attend to your every needs as well as the new City Brief which informs you of the nearest bars, restaurants and points-of-interests, etc. In a nutshell, that's Lonely Planet for the rich.
Other technical features, which we assume you're not interested in, but still give it to you anyway, are 3G connectivity, a 3-megapixel camera with dual LED flash and microSD expansion card slot. We are still waiting for the availability details in Asia and will update as soon as we get the information.
There's nothing quite like a CEO speaking out to crush reports of its company's downfall.
That's exactly what Jim Morrison has done last week, according to ITP which runs news site arabianbusiness.com. Morrison responded to news that the company had closed down and said that a major fraud within the Dubai-based firm had resulted in the company being unable to pay its staff on time. About 30 of its 40 employees have also been laid off.
The incident which was discovered in August caused a delay in the launch of i-mate's new line of phones. Its last device was the ultratough 810-F announced earlier in February. i-mate couldn't be reached for comments regarding its business in the Asia-Pacific region and support status of its current handsets at the time of writing.
