However, Android has a much smaller base of devices and thus has more upside ahead.
AdMob, a company that tracks mobile Web and application usage, found that Android and iPhone users download nine to 10 apps a month and iPod touch users download 18 a month. More than half of the Android and iPhone users spend more than 30 minutes a day using apps, according to the survey results released Thursday (PDF).
That's some serious engagement and a lot of runway for Android. Why? Android-powered devices--T-Mobile's MyTouch (known as the HTC Magic in Asia) is the headliner--are hard to come by. However, that's changing as Motorola will be taking Android handsets to large carriers like Verizon Wireless in the fourth quarter.

The third major edition of Facebook for iPhone has just crept into the iTunes App Store. It's a huge update, with numerous advanced features that make Facebook more interactive than before and which bring the app as close to the desktop experience as it's ever been.
Facebook for iPhone opens on your news feed as usual, but the upper left corner now sports a tiny grid icon that serves as the main organizing feature for this new build. Click it to see a screen equipped with a search bar on top, a notification alert area on the bottom, and a grid of nine activities you can perform in the middle. These include the news feed, your profile details, your message inbox, Facebook chat, friend requests, events, photo albums, and notes.
Those who use Facebook on the iPhone frequently will notice that quite a few of these actions are brand new, like viewing events and submitting an RSVP from your phone. You'll also be able to view friends' birthdays and upload photos to any album. Anyone sporting an iPhone 3GS gets the added bonus of uploading video.

HTC just announced it will be bundling navigation software with its Android-powered Magic smartphone in Singapore. The Sygic Mobile Maps application is a fully featured program with features like turn-by-turn voice instructions and route guidance. That makes it more useful than the built-in Google Maps app in Android when it comes to driving instructions. Sygic's software is also available for other platforms such as iPhone OS and Windows Mobile.
This bundle is available starting today from HTC Magic devices bought through one of Singapore's three mobile operators. Don't expect it to be preinstalled if you buy the handset from a phone retailer. Current owners of the HTC Magic also won't be getting it as a download--this is for new purchases only. According to the company, this will also not be extended to the older HTC Dream and upcoming HTC Hero for now. If you are not in Singapore, contact your local HTC office or operator to find out if this bundle is heading your way, too.
