Although push notification has been out for weeks now, plenty of publishers are still integrating the technology into applications for the iPhone and the iPod touch.
Yahoo is one. Earlier this week, Yahoo updated its instant messenger application to version 1.21 (previous coverage). The update's content and form are identical, with the exception that it can now push an instant message alert and notification to you when the Messenger application is closed, so long as you're logged in.
In addition to seeing the semi-transparent window with the message contained within, Yahoo Messenger will list the number of missed messages you've accumulated in the red, circular badge overlaying the icon. Read more »
Apple and the major record labels are teaming up to create bundles of interactive features to accompany music downloads, according to the Financial Times.
The project, codenamed "Cocktail", has Apple collaborating with EMI, Sony Music, Warner Music, and Universal Music Group with an eye toward a September launch date, the UK newspaper said on its FT.com site early Monday, sourcing the information to unnamed people familiar with the situation. The "interactive book" would let users play songs without having to return to the iTunes software, the story said.

The Cell-Mate attaches itself to any handset and loops over your head as if you had a pair of headphones on. Except that this one lets you chat on the phone without a Bluetooth earpiece. We can't decide between looking ridiculous and forking out a little more for a Bluetooth accessory. The Cell-Mate is available on Taylor Gifts for US$15.

The chip company visited our offices today to show off an exciting concept Netbook that's powered by the same architecture used in the Palm Pre. Yes! We said "exciting" and "Netbook" in the same sentence!
The unnamed demo unit, built by the awesomely named Pegatron, which is owned by Asus, uses a Freescale iMX515 CPU--a product that in turn uses the same ARM Coretex-A8 chip used in the Pre. In mobile phone guise, the chip is clocked somewhere in the region of 600MHz, but stretches its legs to a full 1GHz in the Pegatron. That might not sound like much, but the 65nm Coretex-A8 is capable of running 720p high-definition movies and 3D gaming. Read more »
On Friday, Motorola launched a new program called Motodev, designed to give developers early access to tools and programs so they can get a head start on creating apps for the company's future Google Android devices.

Through the Accelerator Program, select developers will be given access to tools, specs, and other resources, such as direct access to the company's developer support engineers via private discussion boards. In addition, they will also have exclusive prerelease access to Motorola's upcoming devices for testing and debugging.
