Do you sometimes wish that your phone doesn't ring? Well, you're not alone.
A study from Pew Internet and American Life Project, "The Mobile Difference", has revealed that even 20-somethings can occasionally be overwhelmed by technology.
Ten groups were identified in the report, with 39 percent of the adults surveyed found to be active in adopting mobile technology. This chunk of users was grouped into five categories that comprised Digital Collaborators, Ambivalent Networkers, Media Movers, Roving Nodes and Mobile Newbies.
The remaining 61 percent were either comfortable with desktop computers or were infrequent online users, or rooted in old media platforms. Read more »

The new service, when launched in end April 2009, will possibly be the fastest mobile broadband network in our region. HSPA+ is the enhanced version of HSPA, with theorectical downlink speeds of up to 28Mbps and uplink speeds of 11.5Mbps. Current HSPA networks, such as StarHub's MaxMobile plan (about S$50/month), typically offers Web access speeds of up to 7.2Mbps for downlinks and 2Mbps for uplinks.
According to a StarHub representative, the HSPA+ service is targeted at both consumer and business users. It is expected to come with a monthly subscription of slightly over S$100 (US$71.04), although the actual figure is expected to be much lower after bundle packages and discounts. The Huawei USB dongle (pictured) needed to achieve the 21Mbps speed will cost around S$300 (US$213.13) on its own, before bundling discounts. Read more »
Chinese communications equipment maker Huawei has nailed an important deal and is close to striking a second one with American service providers, according to The Wall Street Journal.
The company, which has tried for several years to crack the US market, has scored a deal with cable operator Cox Communications and is a finalist in bids to help Clearwire build its nationwide 4G wireless network using a technology called WiMax.
Clearwire expects its network to be available to 120 million people by 2010. And it is currently selecting equipment suppliers to help it build the network. The new Clearwire was formed at the end of last year when it merged spectrum assets from Sprint Nextel with its own. Sprint had also planned to build a nationwide 4G wireless network using WiMax. The company had also selected vendors to build the network, including suppliers Motorola and Samsung. But the new Clearwire is not bound to Sprint's previous vendor contracts. Read more »

After Sony Ericsson signed on Maria Sharapova as its global ambassador in January 2008, the Russian tennis star, who is turning 22 this year, has been busy on and off the court. Aside from being involved in designing a collection of accessories, she has also been trying out new phones, the latest being the T707 that has just been announced.
Due out in selected markets from Q2, the T707 has a mirror-like surface with a hidden OLED screen that's reminiscent of the Japanese "keitai" (mobile phone). There's also gesture control which lets you reject calls and snooze alarms by waving your hand over the screen, a 3.2-megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth stereo and support for HSDPA. No word on the price, though the phone will be available in Mysterious Black, Spring Rose and Lucid Blue when it ships.
