Mophie Juice Pack for iPhone 3G to slim down

This is getting old, but if you have an iPhone 3G, you definitely need an external juice pack. And I have some good news.

Mophie, the maker of the popular and long-lasting original Juice Pack for iPhone 3G has announced its new and much slimmer version of the accessory, appropriately called Juice Pack Air.

The new juice pack is equipped with a 1,200-mAH lithium-polymer battery housed in an ultrathin case and designed to double the amount of time you can work on your iPhone 3G.

To put this in numbers, the Juice Pack Air is said to provide up to 270 additional hours of standby time, 4.5 hours of talktime or Internet surfing, 20 hours of music playback, or 6 hours of video playback. These numbers are about half of what the original juice pack can provide. However, the Juice pack Air is more than 50 percent thinner than the original.

Even Aquaman wouldn't be caught dead with this iPhone case

While everyone else is pulling out their hair trying to make the slimmest iPhone case possible, the geniuses over at Fins 4 Fun are going in the complete opposite direction with their swim fin-shaped cell phone holster. If you just can't get enough negative attention, this holster's gonna pull you out of your rut, one earful of sand at a time.

The fin isn't quite as big as an adult swimming fin, but it's just large enough to make you look like a total loser. And just so you know they're not completely joking with the design, the "heel strap" is adjustable to fit all the latest smartphones, as well as other small items like MP3 players and digital cameras. Heck, you can even put a pack of Altoids in there, as long as the dimensions don't exceed 2 inches wide by 4.75 inches high and .75 inches deep.

Singapore first to get Comes With Music-enabled 5800 XpressMusic

Damian Koh  |  Feb 13, 2009

Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

According to Nokia, users in Singapore will be the first in the world to get a Comes With Music-enabled 5800 XpressMusic. The buffet-style music download service is currently live in the UK for the N96, 8GB N95 and 5310 XpressMusic.

The Finnish outfit also announced today that Comes With Music (CWM) will be available in Singapore for the 5320 XpressMusic, 5220 XpressMusic, N96, N85 and N79. When these handsets make their way to the market, users will be able to download as much music as they want within the one-year period over the air directly to the handset. However, this does not apply to the 5220 XpressMusic which will require the user to transfer the tunes to the phone via the Nokia Music PC app.

Samsung delays Android phone

Bonnie Cha  |  Feb 13, 2009

MWC 2009

Well, here's the first disappointment of the Mobile World Congress. Samsung will not be showing off its first Google Android smartphone at the show; in fact, we won't be seeing it at all until the second half of 2009.

Initial reports said Samsung would release its Android device some time in the second quarter of 2009, but according to an article in The Guardian, the head of marketing at Samsung's mobile division, Younghee Lee, said the company is "planning internally" for a release in the second half of the year. Lee added that Samsung is in negotiations with a number of operators to bring its Android device to market.

While obviously disappointing, we do know that Samsung will be holding a press conference at Mobile World Congress, so we expect an announcement(s) of some sort. Check back next week for more.

Sprint posts Palm Pre specifications

Bonnie Cha  |  Feb 13, 2009
MWC 2009

On Thursday, Sprint stealthily posted specifications for the highly anticipated Palm Pre on its Web site. Of course, a lot of the smartphone's details were revealed at CES 2009 and the new information doesn't reveal anything earth-shattering, but we do learn a couple of things. First, the Pre will allow multimedia messaging. The integrated Bluetooth will also support the A2DP profile for stereo Bluetooth and dial-up networking (also via USB tethering). Finally, the device will offer about 7.4GB of user-available memory.

Now, some might take this as a sign that Sprint and Palm are prepping for an imminent release, perhaps the rumored February 15 date. However, we still believe this is highly unlikely; it's just too soon. We do know that Palm will be at GSMA Mobile World Congress though, so we could hear some kind of news then.
