Now that you've gotten your iPhone 3G, it's time to get some accessories for it.
Digital Life Outfiter (DLO) didn't wait for long and has just come out with a slew of stuff that you can use to protect, carry, and enhance your iPhone 3G. Most of them work with the original iPhone and the iPod touch, too.
To keep your iPhone from scratching or bumped around if dropped, you can choose either the HybridShell (US$24.99) that's bulky yet stylish, or the VideoShell (US$19.99), which is clear and sturdy. Of course, you can get other old-school outfits like the Jam Jacket (US$19.99) or the HipCase (US$29.99).
Personally, I prefer the Action Jacket (US$29.99) for iPhone, which works well for when you go jogging, which is probably the only time I would want to use a case for a smart phone/music player.
DLO also has the Portable Speakers that instantly turn your iPhone into a mini boom box, which works well for a small room or when you are on-the-go. The speakers can be folded up into an "egg" that's a compact 6 inches in diameter. It's rather expensive, though, at US$49.99.
We've swooned over Pandora's new iPhone application, LOL'd at the chat application from AIM, and poked our friends with the new Facebook application. But as we continue to dig deeper into the growing catalog of iPhone applications one thing is clear: There are some stinkers in the mix. Sure, they might we well-coded (or not), but who needs them? We've put together a list of 10 absolutely absurd new iPhone apps.
1. Birth Buddy. This app lets you track labor contractions--you know, like when you're about to have a baby. This US$10 application does have some use, like letting you figure out how far along you are, based on the timing of your contractions; however, this could be done simply with the iPhone's built-in stopwatch and the lap option. The one added benefit is that you can send an email with this information to loved ones, but using that built-in phone and e-mail function you're already paying for might be a smarter idea.

US operator Sprint has the Treo 800w for sale now. This is Palm's latest Windows Mobile phone and comes with GPS and Wi-Fi. Yes, you heard right, a Treo with W-Fi. Palm finally managed to put all the required wireless radios into one of its PDA-phones, years behind the competition. That's not going to matter to those who love the Treo keyboard and are used to the form factor, so we expect this new 800w to do all right.
Here's the bad news. Sprint uses a CDMA network, and the 800w that it's selling won't have the W-CDMA and GSM wireless radios we need here in Asia. If we know Palm, a GSM version should already be in the works. Those who want one here will just have to be patient for now. A similar model currently available here is the Samsung SGH-i780. Check that out if you haven't already.
Now that the launch day is over, you're probably sick and tired of iPhone news, and we don't blame you. But there remains one question (albeit a very silly one) remaining on some people's minds. And that is, do I get the white one, or the black one?
Yes, it's a purely aesthetic choice, but c'mon, Apple fans are known to care about looks, so this is a relevant question. As you know, the white iPhone is available only in the 16GB model, so many people have posited that this is seen as the "luxury" color, similar to the way black MacBooks were seen as the "it" item back when it was released (Black MacBooks are available only if you want to cough up US$200 more for a bigger hard drive).
But judging from the reactions of many people in line, a lot of people seem to be opting for the black iPhone, 16GB or not. Is the white iPhone doomed? Is it too "lady-like" and "girly". as some people have said?
I decided to take a photo of both black and white iPhones that we happen to have here at CNET. It's hard to see the Apple logo on the white iPhone, but it is the same silvery hue as the one on the black iPhone. Here they are:
So if you're brave enough to wait in line for an iPhone 3G, which one will you get? And if you already bought one, which one did you buy? And if you think this is a horribly silly post, you can tell us, too.
So the big news last week was the launch of the iPhone 3G, first in New Zealand, followed by Australia, Japan and Hong Kong. For those of you in Macau, Singapore and the Philippines, it looks like you still have to wait.
We're not sure at this point of time if there's a gag order, because no one we know is able (or willing) to say when the remaining three countries will launch the iPhone 3G. We already know approximately how much it costs to own one (judging from the price plans offered by some of the telcos in the region). And it's not cheap.
So the question now is: Will you get an iPhone 3G? Or if you have already gotten your hands on an unlocked one, share with us and our readers your personal experience.
