Motorola's pathetic showing at the Mobile World Congress may have disappointed many people, but we are still harboring a tiny glimpse of hope that the US-based phone-maker will get its act together at the upcoming CTIA show in the US in April--that's if a marketing video making its rounds on YouTube is to be believed.
Handsets that were shown in the 74-second clip included a MING lookalike, a possible ROKR E10, a Windows Mobile Q 9h (perhaps with WM 6.1) and an imaging phone developed with Kodak. None of these are official, of course. So will it be another round of disappointments? Or will Moto make a comeback attempt? We'll find out in a fortnight.
Here's an idea we bet could easily become the most copied design, after the iPhone. Check out the Mooon+. And yes, that's three "o's, presumably since that will be your expression of awe when you first clap eyes on this concept phone and start mooning over it. It isn't so much the iPhone-ish touchscreen and sleek lines that will wow you since we've seen plenty of imitators, but designer Sunman Kwon's clever twist at the end.
Indeed, snap off the top piece and, voila, you get a Bluetooth headset that's been craftily docked all this time onto the handset. There're no other specs to speak of, but who cares? We just want to see this going to market and eclipsing the iPhone's hype just a little.
The i-mate Ultimate range of PDA-phones started to go on sale in Singapore during last week's IT Show. We commented that those waiting for an operator discount would have to wait further because it seemed then that the device would be sold only at retail shops. Well, we didn't have to wait long as the Dubai-based company has announced that it has tied up deals with operators StarHub and M1 to make two models of its range available through them.
With M1, i-mate will be offering its top-of-the-line model, the Ultimate 9502. While with StarHub, the 8502 will be available, another Windows Mobile PDA-phone with a form factor similar to the Treo and BlackBerry devices.
Some of you may be asking: "What's the big deal? Why is this considered news?" Read more »
There's nothing the lipless feline won't do and that includes mating with your cell phone via a proprietary cable. What this mini kitty does is it juices up the handset using what looks like two AA-sized (we're not sure about the size because the specs weren't mentioned) batteries.
Problem is, according to Akihabara News, this charger is compatible with only Japanese cell phone battery connectors. However, the blog site also added that GeekStuff4U--maker of this device--has intentions to develop a mini-USB version, so fans outside of Japan are not left out in the cold. Available only on special order here.
At first glance this might seem like ridiculous proposition, and for US$531 it
probably is. But if you talk a lot and don't have a decent speakerphone
or other way to have a comfortable hands-free conversation on your mobile phone,
the purCushion
might not seem as silly as it looks.
Except for taking photos, this Bluetooth cushion includes several basic phone functions, according to GeekAlerts, including volume control, muting,
redialing, and other features, with 8 hours of talktime and 300 hours on
standby per charge. And unlike most handsets, it's washable.
