Too bad the Hummer's not a vehicle you'll likely catch on Asia's roads. Otherwise, you can have a matching phone to go with this fuel-guzzling monster rig. Given that Ferrari and Porsche have launched their own handsets, we're none too surprised that another car marque's steering down the same route. But unlike the sleeker Porsche, this one guns for a military-style camoflage finish, plain silver or Lamborghini yellow, and goes low gear with the tech torque. For the price, you get only a 2.2-inch color touchscreen, 2-megapixel camera, FM radio, Bluetooth A2DP, 25MB of memory, microSD slot and GPRS/GSM support. Hummer bummer.
Fresh out of Computex is the Mio A702 PDA-phone. As you would expect from a Mio product, this is a GPS-enabled product.
Chinese-language site PhoneDaily spotted this new handheld, which runs Windows Mobile 6 Professional and comes with a numeric keypad below its touchscreen display. Information about the specifications is scant, limited to what can be seen from pictures of the device.
The photos indicate that it has a microSD slot, a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus and a jack for attaching an external GPS antenna. There is no directional pad or joystick under the display but a scroll wheel can be found along the A702's left. It does not look as compact as the Mio A501, but that's to be expected given the inclusion of a keypad.
No details about this Mio's connectivity options were given by PhoneDaily, but a reliable source has told CNET Asia that it will come with quadband GSM and Wi-Fi, though not 3G. Price and availability are still unavailable.

Porsche may be synonymous with speed, but it's been a tad late in the mobile phone race until now. Still, better late than never--at least its marketing department has progressed beyond the kitchen, where it's been taking on Lamborghini and other rivals to produce appliances like coffee makers.
Microsoft today announced that Windows Mobile 6 (WM6), the latest version of its mobile operating system, will be available in Japanese. Devices using that from HTC, Sharp and Toshiba will be available in June.
Of greater significance to non-Japanese Windows Mobile users is the simultaneous announcement of Office Mobile 2007. This is the newest version of Office Mobile, and will be available as a free update starting Q3. This upgrade is compatible with Windows Mobile 5.0 touchscreen devices and all WM6 (Professional and Standard) handhelds and smart phones. Devices shipped with WM6 will have this new version of Office Mobile pre-installed from Q3.
This will allow Windows Mobile to open documents created with the desktop software Office 2007. Documents created using older versions of Office will still be supported by Office Mobile 2007. Another added feature is support for fax, which means that users who choose to receive their faxes via email will be able to open these fax documents too.
Look out for more information and screenshots as these become available. The screenshot shown is that of the current version of Office Mobile.
