A chair that rocks with six legs

Damian Koh  |  Aug 27, 2009

High-back, leather executive chairs that let you lean backward are really cushy (and expensive), but you can achieve the same effect and not burn a hole in your wallet with the Attitude Chair. Unlike conventional seats, this contraception is fitted with two additional legs. In normal upright position, these legs won't touch the floor. But as you lean back, they roll out to replace the two front legs that have just been lifted off the ground. We're assuming the pair stops at a fixed angle to prevent you from tipping over. While you can't really play executive in a wooden chair like this, at least you won't embarrass yourself by falling backward.

New research shows multitasking is counter-productive

Dong Ngo  |  Aug 26, 2009

This is one of my most (and by that I mean least) productive multitasking co-workers.

If you can't read through this article in one sitting, you may be in serious trouble. The good news is you wouldn't discover what your problem is. Are you still reading?

It has been my presumption that multitaskers are generally more productive than people who prefer to do one thing at a time. Typical examples of those with what I call "occupational short attention span" tend to be workers in high-tech environments, including me and most of my CNET co-workers.

A Bluetooth stethoscope, the better to hear with

That ubiquitous symbol of the medical profession, the stethoscope, is finally undergoing a 21st century tech makeover. The next time you drop by the doctor's, his acoustic listening implement may well sport Bluetooth connectivity and an LCD panel.

3M Health Care has announced the Littmann Electronic Stethoscope which packs features most headphone users would be familiar with, such as noise cancellation and greater sound clarity. With the souped-up hearing, the Littman then transmits the lung, heart and body sounds wirelessly to the bundled Zargis StethAssist program for further analysis, as well as to keep a record on file. Which is all good for patients and physicians. That said, the cost has also been upgraded, at a pricey US$379, which hopefully won't trickle down too much to the tab on your next visit to the clinic.

The perfect combination of games and booze

Jeff Sparkman  |  Aug 21, 2009

Part of the fun of playing video games in the arcade back in the day was watching the adults try to evade giant pickle slices, fried eggs and hot dogs in Burgertime without spilling the beer perched precariously on the cabinet.

Now, through the miracle of modern technology, you can relive those days with the Arkeg arcade cabinet. Not only does the cabinet house a PC preloaded with 69 arcade classics (legally licensed, even), but it also has a kegerator with a 5-gallon keg.

You can customize it with add-ons such as drip trays or a European keg coupler as well as custom cabinet art.

This machine can be added to your private arcade for about four grand, not including add-ons.

And because I'm your pal, and I know the important questions, I already checked. According to the list of games on the Arkeg site, it does, in fact, include Tapper.

A Persuader Bag to shoot 'em up

Juniper Foo  |  Aug 21, 2009

Guns and roses. (Credit: James Piatt)

This totebag just guns for attention. Besides being plain unwieldy to lug around, the Persuader Bag by designer James Piatt is made from interlocking, laser-cut copper mirror leather that looks painful to the touch. The good thing is, this doesn't have a single stitch on it. The bad thing is, it doesn't have the luxurious, leather texture that a girl expects from a handbag costing US$579. About the cool tech thing here is the mobile phone compartment hidden in the "clip". Just don't expect to smuggle this through airport customs since its all-metal automatic rifle outline is likely to snag you a free overnighter in detention with some real gun-toting hobos.
