D-Link incorporates HD in new MediaLounge

With all the current buzz on high definition and connected home entertainment, D-Link is enticing the consumers with its latest MediLounge DSM-520 wireless multimedia steamer. The new model now ships with 1080i video output and HDMI connectivity, ideal for quality playback on new-generation HDTVs.

To facilitate instant access to music, photos and videos stored on USB storages such as thumbdrives and portable media players, the streamer also features a front USB port capable of high-speed data transfer. Thats besides a wired 100Mbps network and wireless WiFi-G connectivity for remote file playback.

Media compatibility-wise, it supports most popular formats ranging from the common MP3 to JPEG and DivX. Other more exotic variants include an HD version of Windows Media Video and MPEG-4. The D-Link DSM-520 is slated for release soon at a retail price of S$699 (US$474.54).

Sony A/V receiver embraces full-HD

Announced today are three new Sony A/V receivers under its famed ES-series popular with enthusiasts and audiophiles. The STR-DA5200ES, DA3200ES and 1200ES feature HDMI 1080p video-handling capability and its proprietary Digital Cinema Auto Calibration system. That’s besides next-gen surround sound compatibility implemented through 7.1-channel uncompressed audio-ready (LPCM) HDMI (5200/3200ES only), as well as discreet analog input.

Video connectivity-wise, there are up to three HDMI and three component-video sockets for external component hookups, while there are six to eight digital audio inputs depending on the model. The flagship 5200ES also comes loaded with a high-performance Faroudja Directional Correlation Deinterlacing engine designed for jaggie-free pictures and quality video upscaling.

While no specific pricing and launch date is available, expect the receivers to retail somewhere between S$1,550 (US$1,052.27) and S$3,000 (US$2,036.66).

NeoDigits announces 1080p DVD player

The Hong Kong-based manufacturer reinforces its current line of HELIOS DVD players with the announcement of the upcoming H4000 series. The sleek all-black player features 50/60Hz 1080p support via HDMI and component-video as well as 1080i-compatibility from its PC output.

High Definition compatibility aside, the player is capable of playing back just about every popular format available in the consumer space. Besides the customary MP3, WMA, JPEG and DivX formats, it also handles media encoded with Xvid, MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 content out-of-the-box.

The H4000 will be available from October 17 at US$169 directly from NeoDigits or its dealers in the US, European Union and Australia.

Laser to power future rear-projection TV

Aussie chipmaker Arasor International and America-based Novalux recently showcased in Australia the world’s first laser-projection TV. Built by Mitsubishi, the prototype using the formers’ chip and laser engine is expected to enter production in December 2007.

According to Novalux, this new technology offers a number of advantages over its incumbent plasma and LCD offerings. These range from richer colors for enhanced details to lower power consumption and a staggering 50 percent price difference in affordability.

Just to whet your appetite, expect these new entries to sell at less than US$1,000 when they hit the market.

Pioneer’s A/V lineup under one roof

If you missed Pioneer's stunning full-HD demonstration during the recent International Sound and Sight Exhibition held in Singapore, here comes another opportunity to catch a glimpse of the Blu-ray and PDP-5000EX combination. The company is showcasing its 2006 A/V lineup at its PURE HD World event taking place at the Suntec Convention Centre meeting rooms 325 and 326, from October 5 to 8, 11am to 9pm.

Besides offering an upclose and personal experience, Pioneer’s staff will also be on the ground providing expert advice and answers to product queries.
