This may not be the most glamorous-looking home theater room in Singapore, but I'm pretty sure it's one of the best-sounding and more visually stunning around. An elaborate creation by a fellow enthusiast in Xtremeplace forum, this setup not only comprises top-notch A/V components, but features various special touches. These range from seven electronically calibrated (read: Equalized) subwoofers to a full room acoustic treatment up to 8 inches deep to absorb the faintest room reverberation. All these are packed into a confined 3.3 x 4.5m space with complete light control.

Remember the Dell M109S? Here's its Taiwanese twin based on the same DLP technology and the latest LED lighting. However, the bigger BenQ GP1 is more of an all-rounder and features onboard video playback via its USB port and a 2W speaker. These convert the 54 x 146 x 120mm beamer into a miniature mobile home theater complete with wall color correction for movie on-the-go.
There's just one major problem. The elusive GP1 is not available in Singapore and most other Asia markets. But if you're determined to get yourself a unit, it'll be launched in Japan from next week at 69,000 yen (US$715).
Forget the new edgelit LED TVs. Seems their long-awaited OLED counterparts may be arriving sooner than expected. In an announcement for the SID International Symposium, Seminar and Exhibition at San Antonio this week, Samsung is bolstering the production-ready status of its active-matrix OLED panels. These include the world's first full-HD model measuring 31 inches wide with an ultra-high 1 million:1 contrast performance. The side profile of the screen is also amazingly sleek at 8.9mm thin, though this is still far from the 5.9mm record set by the upcoming LG edgelit LED TV.
News of a yet-to-announced LG Blu-ray DVR has surfaced recently. According to tech site HDTV lounge, the LG HR400 is slated for the European market and will be launched in the continent pretty soon. Specifications-wise, the recorder has an integrated DVB-T digital TV tuner and a rather conservative 160GB disc drive compared with the Japanese equivalent's terabyte capacity.
As a Blu-ray player, the HR400 will support the latest BD-Live advanced interactivity for downloading Web-based content and 1080p DVD upscaling. Other enticing features include updated DivX HD-compatibility as well as YouTube video streaming. There's no firm indication as to availability, though it's expected to cost a whopping 599 euros (US$858).
