For starters, they've short-throw projection ability and can cast a sizeable 60-inch screen from a short 1m distance. Is a slimmer PS3 in the works?

Back in 2004, after the PS2 was on the market for four years, Sony went ahead and shrank its design down and brought out a new model dubbed the "slim" PS2. It was a great move and Sony initially couldn't keep up with demand for the system.

Now, five years later, rumors have been percolating that Sony might be preparing to trim the PS3, with an outside chance that the company might have something to say about a new design at E3. At the same time, the reports we've read seem rather dubious, and while Sony may eventually do a redesign, the more likely scenario is a new PS3 with minor cosmetic changes, such as different-color finishes.

Sony announces new 200Hz Bravia HDTVs

Philip Wong  |  May 13, 2009

The latest Bravia Z5500-series LCD TVs replace last year's Z4500-series. The new incarnations, powered by Sony's latest Bravia Engine 3 video processor, offer a stepped-up 100,000:1 dynamic contrast performance, four HDMI 1.3 inputs and an improved multimedia networking function. The key proposition for these Bravia TVs will still be their 200Hz Motionflow technology. This system reduces judder by interpolating three motion-compensated picture frames for each original frame from your regular TV broadcasts, DVDs and other video content.

Here's a quick overview of the notable features in the TVs:
  • Full-HD, 1,920 x 1,080 resolution
  • Music, photo and video playback via USB and Ethernet
  • DLNA-compatible multimedia networking
  • XMB icon-based user interface
  • HD digital TV reception via DVB-T tuner and MPEG-4 decoder
  • Bravia Energy Saving Switch (probably a mechanical on/off button)

  • The Sony Bravia Z5500-series is slated for launch across Asia Pacific from June 2009 with pricing pending further confirmation.

Report: Microsoft taking on Wii with motion-sensing camera

Nintendo won't be the only video game console maker with a sophisticated motion-sensitive controller if a report out Tuesday from The Wall Street Journal is accurate.

The report said Microsoft plans to unveil a new video camera that would allow players of its Xbox 360 console to control games by moving their bodies. And if true, it's a clear shot across the bow of Nintendo and its innovative Wii console, which shocked the video game world when it was released in late 2006 with its own motion-sensitive controller.
