Thanks to an eagle-eyed forumer from Xtremeplace.com, we managed to dig out some juicy insider news on the DMP-BD60 announced at CES earlier this year. This Panasonic Blu-ray player is tentatively slated for launch in selected Asian countries, including Singapore, around May or June. What's interesting is the exciting prospect of the company's plans to debut its Web-based Viera Cast service in our region outside of Japan. Viera Cast brings Internet into the living room and onto the big screen with popular content (country dependent) such as YouTube videos and Picasa Web photo album and Bloomberg news report.
Don't you hate those tiny buttons on an average Media Center PC's remote control? Well, some whiz kids have conceived the opposite extreme: An oversized "stepping remote" stitched together from two PS2 Dance Dance Revolution mats and a converter box. For those taking up this DIY project, the C language source code to program the mats with your Media Center PC is available here.
The announcement most Wii owners have been waiting for is here at last. Nintendo's MotionPlus addon is finally on its way, more specifically June 18--almost a year after it had Wii gamers drooling with anticipation at E3 2008. For those who've forgotten what this is all about, the upcoming accessory attaches to the end of the Wiimote and, combined with the accelerometer, offers greater intuitive gameplay by more quickly and accurately reflecting motions in 3D space.
EA has indicated that compatible games including Grand Slam Tennis and Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 will ship in time for MotionPlus' debut. Will Wii Sports Resort be out as well, a game that's supposed to come bundled with the Wii MotionPlus addon? Let's just hope that MotionPlus titles start rolling soon, and give some of us an excuse to put our Wii console to active use again.

We knew the music of the Beatles was coming to the
MTV video game Rock Band, but now we have a release date: September 9, 2009.
That's when you'll be able to get The Beatles: Rock Band, a new
edition of the game for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Wii consoles. You can
start working on your bad "lonely hearts club band" puns now.
The game itself will retail for US$59.99 in the US; there will also be a
US$99.99 version that comes with Beatles-inspired guitar controllers, and a
US$249.99 "special edition" bundle. I'm guessing that one comes with a walrus.
The date is awfully cute, considering the Beatles' formally self-titled
"White Album" contains that song called Revolution 9, which consists largely
of a repetition of the phrase "number nine, number nine, number nine."
Conspiracy theorists say that if you play it backward it sounds like "turn me
on, dead man" and is hence one of the clues that adds up to reveal that Paul
McCartney died and was replaced by a lookalike early in the band's career.

The 1-inch thick Panasonic TC-P54Z1 will list for US$5,999.95.
(Credit: Panasonic)
Our friend Gary Merson, aka the HD Guru, got his hands on some early pricing for certain Panasonic HDTVs--and now he's got some numbers for Panasonic's 1-inch thick plasma, the 54-inch TC-P54Z1. Not surprisingly, the "Z1" will set you back a pretty penny when it comes out in the US this summer. Six grand to be exact.
Now, we love Merson, but we're not so sure his statement declaring the Z1 potentially "the hottest HDTV for 2009" is all that accurate. Yes, Panasonic's loaded the Z1 with lots of features and high-end specs--and it should deliver a great picture. But the fact is not that many people care if their flat-panel TV is 1-inch thick since most people don't mount them on the wall anyway. It's really the size of the base that matters, and the overall size of the TV.
