Sure you can get a 10m HDMI cable for around S$100, but the coolness factor of the US$800 Gefen EXT-WHDMI, a wireless HDMI system with a 10m range, cannot be denied. And according to our tests, the system actually works--albeit not quite as flawlessly as the cable.
The idea behind wireless HDMI is that some installations, particularly wall-mounted flat-panel TVs and ceiling-mounted home theater projectors, just don't look right with scads of wires dangling from the bottom. To hide those wires you typically have to pay an installer scads of cash to run those wires through the walls between your display device (TV, projector) and source components (Blu-ray player, settop box, etc).

If you are one of those old school A/V buffs still into beefy tank-like equipment, the latest Marantz BD8002 is one monster Blu-ray player you definitely have to check out. This 10.5kg mammoth with multi-layered chassis looks almost indestructible, while an onboard Silicon Optix Realta HQV video processor will eat most premium A/V receivers and competing Blu-ray players for breakfast. That includes models featuring the lower-end Faroudja DCDi and HQV Reon-VX chips.
Other notable goodies for this jaw-dropping US$1,999.99 kit range from full Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio support via HDMI and 7.1-channel discreet audio outputs to an SD card slot for multimedia playback. We reckon you may be expecting nothing less than full-fledged Blu-ray compatibility for such an expensive player, but the BD8002 is unfortunately only Profile 1.1-enabled. It can't be upgraded to Profile 2.0 as there's no built-in Ethernet port for Web content download. There's currently no update on Asia availability.
