It's so thin it may be literally invisible from the sides. That's what you can expect from the 3mm-thick Sony XEL-1 TV, the first commercially available Organic Light-Emitting Diode or OLED flat-panel TV. Scheduled to go on sale December at US$1,700 in Japan, this 11-incher has an over-the-top 1,000,000:1 contrast matched by a rather modest 960 x 540-pixel resolution.
The display is attached via a swivel arm to a base unit which houses all the electronics and sockets. There's an onboard satellite TV tuner and a suite of connectivity options ranging from 1080p-enabled HDMI to USB and network ports. For an extra elegant touch, the company is also throwing in its renowned XMB user interface first debuted on its PlayStation Portable.
