B&O pyramid speakers

Philip Wong  |  Jan 25, 2006

If you think you've seen it all, guess you never set your sights on a pair of pyramid-shaped loudspeakers. Mount them on the wall, ceiling or desktop and be inspired by the cute form and striking colors--available in red and blue, too.

What is more intriguing is that the Dutch manufacturer has managed to pack a 35W digital amplifier, 19mm fabric dome tweeter and 100mm woofer into a compact 215 x 197 x 205mm cabinet. Even better, your investment is safely guarded by built-in protection circuits just in case you go wild blasting over the top.

Sony DVD dream system

Philip Wong  |  Jan 20, 2006

Launched recently in Singapore, the new Sony DAV-DZ550 home theater system packs a serious punch with its powerful 800W S-Master digital amplifier matched with a set of two-way nano-fine-tweeter-loaded speakers.

Other notable features include an onboard 12bit/108MHz video digital-to-analog, multichannel Super Audio CD playback, A/V lip sync function and dual-format DVD recordable compatibility. This fine 5.1 audio system is now available at a retail price of S$749 (US$492.76).

Sparkling Sony Ruby

Philip Wong  |  Jan 16, 2006

The Ruby earned its pet name from the amazingly high 15,000:1 contrast ratio which it put out utilizing the latest Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD) technology. This is matched with an ultra-HD-resolution panel, making the projector an ideal companion for Sony's upcoming Blu-ray players and PlayStation 3 gaming console.

Dazzling figures aside, this 19kg mammoth is also a stunner, thanks to a unique, unobtrusive white-and-silver shell reminiscent of Apple's wildly popular iPod. This gem would have been perfect if not for its heavenly S$14,999 retail price, but hey, that’s the kind of tab to pay for premium stuff.

Back in black!

Philip Wong  |  Jan 12, 2006

The Sharp LC32AX3M and LC37AX3M are the latest additions to its famed Aquos family LCD TVs. The duo, together with the 26- to 37-inch G series, form the backbone of its WXGA models targeted at its midsized HDTV customers.

While the new AX3 series does not come with the usual bells and whistles like memory card slots and USB port, Sharp compensates for these shortfalls with an energy-efficient digital audio amplifier and an all-digital HDMI terminal for fulfilling its promise of a "first class performance".

The Sharp 32- and 37-inch AX3 are now available at S$2,999 and S$4,299, respectively.
