More goodies for Touch Diamond users

John Chan  |  Aug 06, 2008

We reported earlier that the HTC Touch Diamond will enjoy quad-band GSM connectivity after a firmware upgrade. HTC has just given us word that aside from Hong Kong, this update is now available to users in Southeast Asia.

Aside from adding 850MHz support, the new ROM is also supposed to improve the speed and response of TouchFLO 3D, addressing a perennial complaint of current users. At the same time, Touch owners can also download a new version of the CE-Star application which will allow reading and writing of Chinese and Japanese.

Earlier this week, Samsung also made a similar announcement regarding a new ROM which enabled Chinese text input for the Omnia, though that will only be available at the end of this month. It sure looks like the heated competition between the two brands is doing customers a whole world of good.

Improvements and color options for the Omnia

John Chan  |  Aug 04, 2008

For now, the Samsung Omnia SGH-i900 has 16GB of internal storage and comes only in black. This weekend, another choice will emerge as a white version will be released. The front of the device is the same as the black version but the back battery cover will take on the new shade.

That's not all. Later this month, the company will be releasing a new firmware which includes new widgets for the custom Home screen and a brand-new Hanyu Pinyin text input method for typing in Chinese characters.

Samsung can confirm these changes only for Singapore at the moment, and we are still awaiting word regarding the availability of the new firmware and color for Asia Pacific. We'll update this post as soon as we receive more information.

World's thinnest Bluetooth headset

John Chan  |  Aug 01, 2008

Because it's not enough that mobile phones are getting thinner, the accessories that go with them must slim down, too. To be available in Asia later this month, the Bluetrek Metal Bluetooth headset has a thickness of just 4mm. This, according to the company, makes it the thinnest Bluetooth headset on earth.

Available in black or white, it costs S$88 and, interestingly, can be charged via USB. All you have to do is attach the USB adapter and then stick it into a computer. That makes it very convenient as you won't need separate chargers for home and office. Its price and availability may vary depending on which country you are in, so check with your local distributor (listed on the Bluetrek site) for more details.
