Personally, we're more of a karaoke buff, but for those of you who aren't as secure about your voice as we are about ours, we got something you might want to check out.
It's a fully equipped, axe-shaped guitar controller for PlayStation Guitar Hero and Rock Band games. The controller is a three-quarter replica of Kiss bassist and vocalist Gene Simmons' signature bass guitar and is slightly larger than standard video game guitar controllers.
The Gene Simmons Axe controller is compatible with both PlayStation 2 and 3. It's customized with a replicated paint finish of the original Axe guitar. Both Simmons' autograph and famous Kiss face are painted onto the body of the controller.
The device offers wireless range up to 10m, and has five fret and narrow fret buttons with a fully functioning whammy bar and a durable strum bar. It is also USB-connect ready.
Distributed by Kobian USB, the new controller will be available in the US at the end of the month, but you can preorder it now at Amazon.com. Face paint not included.
Rumors of a new 60GB hard drive Live starter pack have surfaced recently with US retailers such as GameStop taking preorders and Circuit City listing the item in a leaked filer. The former has even indicated a shipping date as early as November 4 at a listed price of US$99.99.
The package supposedly includes a 60GB hard drive, three-month Xbox Live subscription, a wired headset and a network cable. While its pricing is far from attractive, this is an alternative for the existing Xbox 360 Arcade users to upgrade their current console to the Pro standard.
We've already alerted the Asian Microsoft office and are awaiting further information on local availability and price.
Engadget has noted the appearance of a new PlayStation 3 accessory in Japan: A USB charger that can juice up two PS3 controllers at once. While we wouldn't be surprised to see this thing appear in Asia as well, the problem is: There's really no reason it should need to exist. And if the PS3 were better designed, it wouldn't have to. In fact, the existence of this sort of accessory just serves as a reminder of some of the PS3's biggest annoyances--all the more evident because the superb gaming console/Blu-ray player/media hub is otherwise close to perfection.
Annoyance No. 1: PS3 controller batteries aren't removable. The PS3 controller's rechargeable battery is locked inside. When it eventually dies a few years down the road, you'll need to invest in a whole new controller. Compare that with the competition: Both the Nintendo Wii and Xbox 360 controllers have removable batteries.
The Wii uses standard AAs, so you can buy a charger and a set of batteries from the likes of Duracell or Energizer, and you no longer need to invest in an endless supply of new batteries. We've also had good luck with third-party charging solutions from Nyko and Penguin.
The 360 has the best of both worlds: It uses standard AAs (or rechargeables you supply, as suggested above), or you can invest a few bucks in the 360 Quick Charge Kit (a recharger and one rechargeable battery, with additional batteries available separately as well).
The date is November 19. Microsoft is set to roll out the New Xbox Experience worldwide for its console online service a.k.a. Xbox Live. A more extensive overhaul than the recent PlayStation 3 store facelift, the new initiative will also incorporate a virtual community network similar to Sony's 3D Home slated for Q1 2009.
Here are some nifty features you can expect in the future for your Xbox 360;
Share your photos with friends and relatives across the globe through Xbox Live.
Create a virtual Xbox Live Party with up to seven friends, complete with real-time voice chat and photo sharing.
Customize your gamer profile with over 14 million custom and animated avatars.
Stream over 12,000 TV serials/movies and HD programs online from Netflix Inc. (US only).
Access to thousands of games developed by students, hobbyists, etc., around the world (pending confirmation).
