If you are thinking of traveling to Singapore for the upcoming Formula One night race and need some new luggage, the McLaren Sport Samsonite Black Label collection might be right up your alley. The F1 team partnered with the luggage maker to produce this range of bags and suitcases, some of which come with suspension systems. Yes, you heard right, suspension systems.

Touchscreens to track 10 fingers soon

Mats Lewan  |  Jul 23, 2009

New sensors from Synaptics will let devices recognize the touch of up to 10 fingers at a time. (Credit: Synaptics)

Touchscreens that track two fingers will soon seem basic. At least if you compare them with the multitouch-sensor ClearPad 3000 Series, recently announced by Santa Clara, Calif.-based Synaptics.

The transparent sensor tracks up to 10 simultaneous finger touches--we assume that should cover most uses--making possible complex multifinger gestures such as closing an application by "crumpling" it with several fingers, or playing polyphonic sounds on a virtual piano keyboard.

Rock out with your Spock out

Jeff Sparkman  |  Jul 22, 2009

Aww, isn't it cute?

Well, wouldn't you know it, San Diego Comic-Con International (affectionately known as Nerd Prom) is only a few days away, and guess who's mad he's not going?

I tried to console myself by thinking, "Aw, it's probably gonna suck anyway. You won't see anything interesting."

Even when I saw the guest list, I kept up the sentiment, though there were giant cracks in the facade (Ray Bradbury? I'm missing Ray Bradbury?).

But when I saw some of the SDCC-exclusive toys and realized they wouldn't adorn my desk because--and I'm not sure I've mentioned this enough times--I'm not going, I got full-on P.O.ed.

Just as an example, here's a nifty Spock bobblehead. Yawn, you're saying. You've seen Spock bobbleheads. Ah, but this one, an Entertainment Earth exclusive for the convention, has a clear body which, when you push his head, looks like it's being beamed away, complete with light and sounds.

Why, Entertainment Earth? Why do you taunt me with such things?

And while you can preorder them from the site, they'll be shipping while supplies last after the convention, so if all 1,500 sell out at the con (they're only US$13.99 each, so there's a good chance they will), you're out of luck.

Light up with this Lighter Phone

Juniper Foo  |  Jul 21, 2009

(Credit: Seabright)

Now, here's something we've not seen before: A phone that doubles as a cigarette lighter. More tacky than techie, it's gimmicky enough in a made-in-China way to light some chain-smoking geek's fire. There's no price to this yet, and we reckon the Seabright SB6309 Lighter Phone works like a car lighter socket as it claims not to need gas.

Which is perhaps fortunate since you won't want this multitasking handset to blow up in your pocket. Oh yes, did we also mention that it's a multimedia phone with a 2.4-inch QVGA screen, a (so-so) 1.3-megapixel camera, MP3/MP4 media player, Bluetooth connectivity, FM radio and even dual SIM support? Now all that's needed to complete this picture is that it comes in a gold color.
