The Weekend Clock for a saner work week

Unless you're a workaholic, how can anyone not want one of these? Like, hello, anyone in there? I mean, we love reviewing and writing about tech stuff all day long at CNET. But there's got to be a work-life balance, right? With weekends feeling way too brief, the week may seem a tad shorter with a clock (US$29.45) that helps you anticipate Friday. Speaking of which, what do you know, it's Friday already. T.G.I.F!

Orbitwheels give inline skating a new spin

Juniper Foo  |  Feb 19, 2009

We'll not bet on the future being in Orbitwheels, but they certainly give a different and minimalist spin to skating. (Credit: Inventist)

Here's the latest oddball gadget to surf the streets. Or should we say oddwheel? The Orbitwheels is rather reminiscent of the Magic Wheel and Wheelsurf in that both showcase man's fascination with the wheel. This one reinvents it with tiny plasticky-looking hoops that you put your feet through to skate around sideways, mind you, which feels plain unnatural for the body. Hopefully, there's a way to brake if you're going downhill.

Before you feel life's short enough to put this to the test, note the US$119.95 price tag (before shipping). There's also a YouTube clip which seems to indicate that safe isn't part of the Orbitwheels' vocabulary as you'll have to snooze through a good one-and-a-half minutes' worth of disclaimers before you get to the actual demo. Video after the jump.

Hasbro's latest Nerf is a Tommy Gun

John Chan  |  Feb 19, 2009

Our favorite foam-dart toy gun brand is back with a new model, the Nerf N-Strike Raider Rapid Fire CS-35. Shaped like a weapon right out of a Dick Tracy comic book, the CS-35 holds 35 foam darts in a drum-style magazine. You can choose to fire one shot at a time or go to rapid fire mode by holding down the trigger and pumping the handle. Yes, that means this bad boy is not fully automatic like the Nerf Vulcan EBF-25 launched around the same time last year, but that also means you don't need batteries to operate the CS-35.

This new Nerf gun will go on sale in Q3 2009 at US$35. Look out for it at your favorite toy shop later this year. In the meantime, check out Gizmodo's video of its pump action shots.

Toy Fair 2009: Hot stuff from the showfloor

Yes, Monday was a work holiday for most people. But the Toy Fair is in town at the Javitz Center in New York, and like every other online gadget publication, we wanted to give you a little taste of what's there.

Granted, with somewhere around 1,500 manufacturers, distributors, importers, and sales agents from 30 countries making the rounds at the convention center, we're only highlighting a small fraction of all the products that are on display. But hopefully there's a little something for everyone.

USB Cordless Warm Slippers

Juniper Foo  |  Feb 16, 2009

(Credit: Thanko)

Either we've been living under a stone, or USB cordless technology has slipped right past our radar. All's well when we discover that the USB Cordless Warm Slippers hail from Japan's online Rare Mono Shop, where product naming does get somewhat lost in translation. The good thing is the "USB cordless" version (US$42) untethers Thanko's original USB Heating Slippers from the inconvenience of being fettered to a PC or notebook. One can only imagine the number of absent-minded incidents involving yanking the laptop or computer off its moorings. This unleashed edition not only sports a temperature control button, there's now an internal lithium battery with a light indicator. To use, all that's needed is to juice up the batt, and you're good to disconnect.
