WowWee shows off micro projector trio

CES
At the pre-CES Digital Experience event held at The Mirage in Las Vegas, the WowWee Group showed off its recently announced micro projectors. The Cinemin Swivel, an entry-level model, comes with a unique 90-degree hinge for ceiling mounting and a 3-hour battery. The Cinemin Stick, on the other hand, offers onboard memory and an SD card slot. The largest unit of the trio, the Cinemin Station, is touted as a media center with a built-in iPod docking station.

According to a company representative at the booth, the Cinemin micro projectors can throw a diagonal screen size of up to 60 inches. Unfortunately, we weren't able to find out if the three new projectors would make their way to Asia.

SkiGym puts the Alps in your living room

Juniper Foo  |  Jan 08, 2009

Be the badass skier you never knew you could be. (Credit: Pro Idee)

For those who can't get enough of skiing, and you know who you are, this virtual simulator is just great for getting that adrenalin fix you want when you're not on a powder slope. It's also a great workout option for those who have no head for the real thing, like yours truly. The German-made SkiGym is, however, just a wee bit pricey at 1,649 euros (US$2,280) compared to the Wii Fit which has a fun ski component. However, the Wii Fit is to a bunny slope what the SkiGym is to a black diamond run, with the latter offering plenty of built-in challenges and real-life ski slope settings to make it worth considering.

Developed with help from sports specialists, ski instructors and physical therapists, the fully motorized hardware which comes with bundled ski poles can vibrate, rotate and tilt. The PC program itself features 32 different ski slopes including 18 real-life ones such as Beaver Lake and Chamonix, with a choice of difficulty levels ranging from junior to amateur and professional, and disciplines such as slaloms and super G. Best of all, toilet breaks won't be a big problem if you gotta go.

Turn your sofa into a comic book shrine

Does your abode adequately reflect your geek sensibilities? Tossing a comic book cushion or two on the couch could help your living room match your lifestyle.

We spotted these funky cotton cushion covers on Etsy, one of our favorite sites for handmade crafts. They measure about 14 x 14 inches, cost US$15 (not including shipping), and would clash gloriously with the pixel couch.

Might we also suggest a Captain Kirk command chair and a pair of Monty Python slippers?

The Magpul Folding Machine Gun for ladies' handbags

Juniper Foo  |  Jan 07, 2009

This is one cool collapsible firearm that Bond will want. Here in closed position. Goes matchingly with your Netbook. (Credit: Magpul)

You won't find this Netbook-sized portable box with light at the upcoming CES show in Las Vegas, for good reason. At the flick of a switch, the Magpul FMG9 folds out into a lethal submachine gun capable of firing off 31-32 9x19mm NATO rounds from a Glock magazine. By the by, the innocent-sounding acronym stands for Folding Machine Gun.

Lego salt & pepper shakers

Geek, eaters, and children alike, rejoice! Thanks to Lego, you can now say "Lego (let go) my ______" and not refer to Kellogg's Eggo Waffles (or the Lego-shaped variety).

Lego's online store has several household items available. My favorites are the Lego head shakers and the Lego ice tray. Now I just need to build a dining table out of Lego pieces and I'd be set for dinner.

Sadly, the Lego head shakers are not available online in the US, but the 1x1 pixel block shakers are available.
