Remember the LifeStraw, a sort of sip-and-survive filtration drinking straw? Here's another lovely solution for dealing with Gaia's drinkable water woes: The Lifesaver bottle. Developed by a Michael Pritchard who was inspired by Hurricane Katrina, he apparently poured his life savings into developing a chemical-free solution that's able to purify 4,000 to 6,000 liters on a single filter. We're not clear if this will work on sea water, but it'll at least rid you of bacteria, viruses, parasites, fungi and all sorts of microbiological waterborne pathogens in the drink.

Impress the socks off your dinner date. This one's obviously not for lazy bones since it requires you to pore through seven pages of step-by-step instructions on how to make your umbrella look silly in the night. Yourself not included. Not to mention you could get yourself electrocuted while soldering the LEDs and wiring them to the control hub near the tip of the brolly.
Planning a wedding proposal? This project will earn you the points, but not necessary the girl. So make sure the she's worth the trouble or you'll end up a walking light bulb.
We've seen a number of toilet gizmos over the years, some cool like the Blue LED Faucet Light and some downright hilarious like the musical loo from Toto. Useful? Well, if it lets you do what you gotta do, then all's well that ends well. However, the LED Shower Light may prove to be of the few bathroom gadgets that are not only pretty, but functional, too.
Like most shower lights, the LED Shower Light comes on when water starts flowing. What's interesting is that the color of the light changes with the temperature of the water. It stays blue when the water is cold, but switches to red when the temperature reaches 32 degrees Celsius (89 degrees Fahrenheit). The best part is, no batteries are needed to power the LED Shower Light. Water runs an internal turbine system to generate the electricity needed. Although it's not clear just how much light can be produced this way, it's a plus for the Scrooges who like to shower in the dark to save on utility bills. What's more, it also includes a flow regulator that helps to limit water flow.
As a one-time investment, the LED Shower Light will set you back just US$39.99, excluding shipping charges, and installs easily enough on standard shower pipes.
Of course, it makes sense. After all, when you already have geeky tees to affirm your love for your other half, there's a need to take precautions to ward off unwanted attention, too. So if you have second thoughts on whether the slash-resistant T-shirt will hold up in a catfight, consider wearing the No Contact jacket over it. This one's perfect for those who try to mess with you, or your other half.
The jacket is designed to shock anyone who comes into contact, with 80,000 volts of low amperage electric current pulses, rendering temporary disability to the aggressor. It is also smart enough to know not to electrocute the owner (thank goodness). The mechanics of the jacket isn't clear, but to put it into perspective, it's like wearing a Talon stun gun.
No word on price and availability, although we suppose women in Japan would snap these up in no time considering the high rate of modesty outrages there.
