Darth Vader Lamp

Juniper Foo  |  Sep 19, 2007

Heads up on big baddie Darth turning from the Dark Side to the bright. Horrors for fanboys, but yes, our favorite scourge of the Jedi fraternity is now a nightlight, a rather sad comedown for the Dark Sith Lord. The least we would have expected was lightning bolts flashing from those unfathomable eyes. Instead, SOEDA Designs appears to have draped our favorite crook's egghead with what seems to be Nicole Kidman's sequined headpiece from Moulin Rouge. And if you hear heavy breathing in the dark next to you? Definitely not from our mute table lamp buddy here. Comes in black, of course.

Mainnav Innovator MW-705 BT GPS Watch

Juniper Foo  |  Sep 17, 2007

This one got away from Q's lab: Has just about everything but a circular saw (seen in Live and Let Die). Dammit.
It isn't the first time that a watch has Bluetooth or GPS, but Mainnav's timepiece is one of those that loves slashes. It's so feature-packed, it not only combines both Bluetooth and GPS, it also packs a heart rate monitor/pedometer (very essential combination as some people have been known to keel over on their walks), a speed/distance/temperature sensor, as well as alarm/countdown timer. Since we're into slashes, this is a watch aiming for the tech geek/sports fanatic/outdoors(wo)man/Amazing Race contestant or simply those who like their timepiece to multitask like they do. We're just surprised this isn't the size of a tissue box already. For the next generation, we'd like a dart gun built in for getting rid of pesky co-workers, pretty please.

Toaster Teapot

Juniper Foo  |  Sep 14, 2007

Tea for two in more ways than the March Hare could fathom.

Most toasty-licious ideas. This one pairs two common tea-time ingredients in one appliance--tea and toast. Though how it actually manages to brown bread in such a constrained space is mindboggling. Where's the tea, mate? However this works, it's a great space-saver, not to mention, ding ding, being politically "green" since both kettle and toaster are chugging off one mains. Time to have your own Mad Tea Party and impress the guests with this one.

Heads up to Ee Lin for this.

Price: 29.95 pounds (US$56)
Availability: Found at Teapottery
Device: 2-in-1 home appliance
Specs: Choice of 4 colors, 12 x 16cm

Wave TV

Juniper Foo  |  Sep 06, 2007

We all knew that one day TV would fry our brains. Now apparently it's come true. Taking a leaf out of LG's book of Internet fridges, the Holland Electro/Marcel Wanders Wave TV turned up at IFA Berlin recently. The Wave, as it's oddly called, features a 10.2-inch LCD with DVD player built into the oven door of a microwave. Yes, microwave. So now we can watch television on our microwave while the food cooks. If you don't mind paying US$680 for it, you can get popcorn fresh out of the "oven" to have with that comedy playing on your microwave tube. Hopefully, the neighbors won't be peering through their kitchen window just as you're laughing insanely at your microwave appliance.

Price: 500 euroes (US$680)

Device: Integrated kitchen appliance

IFA 2007 roundup and final post

Damian Koh  |  Sep 02, 2007

BERLIN, GERMANY--One man, two days, 26 halls and a pair of sore feet later, yet we managed to cover barely one-fifth of the consumer electronics show at IFA 2007. Sprawled across 160,000sq m (about the size of 20 football fields) on the grounds of ICC Berlin, the annual tradeshow is neither for the faint-hearted nor the weak-minded. We hope it has been an equally exciting time for you as it was for us bringing you the highlights to some of the latest and hottest gadgets at IFA. This post wraps up our two-day tour here in Berlin and, before we sign off, we'll leave you with some pictures of the event.
