Watch out! Seiko Instruments has just announced its Bluetooth watch which apparently acts as an extension to your mobile phone. Just think of the BT Watch or CPC TR-006 ver.1.0 as a mini controller with which you can adjust your handset's ringtone volume, have it alert you on incoming SMS or email, even display the number and name of the caller. Hopefully by the time this launches, Seiko Instruments would have finetuned its watch to offer yet more bedazzling features. And oh yeah, Dick Tracy, eat your heart out.
We're still angling to get a free invite to the Academy Awards, not so much for the boringly endless "thank you" speeches that no one really wants to hear. But, oh mama, get a load of the sheer decadence that's in this year's goodie bag, the sum value of which makes a ticket to LA worth coughing up. Check out some of the freebies being gifted to this year's celebs and attendees.
A portable DVD player and one-year Netflix membership (US$400)
A GPS device from Drive Sync (US$350)
A Segway people mover (US$5,000)
The evergreen Krupps espresso machine and cups (US$600)
An Oceanus watch (no price indicated)
A deal apparently being brokered between Kodak and TV show Entertainment Tonight to present each of the Best Actress nominees with a diamond-encrusted V570 digital camera (US$399 for the camera, US$20,000 for the diamonds fitted in the shape of each actress' initials)
A Vonage VTech expandable broadband cordless phone system (US$550)
That's just the tech stuff. And the real winners are...
Step aside, Piaggio. Tricycles are hip again, and grownups are its target market no less. With marques like Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot, these tri-wheel hybrids are certainly no toys. On the radar is Volkswagen's GX3, recently showcased at the Los Angeles Auto show in January, looking ultra cool and surprisingly minus the sticker shock at just US$17,000. This two-passenger roadster will deliver up to 46 miles per gallon, and is said to be a lot safer than your conventional motorbike, thanks to a steel construction frame and paneling made of high-density fiberglass. A decision is expected soon on whether to mass produce the GX3. The Beetle on three wheels next?

This one's no huge surprise, coming from Solid Alliance which has a history of churning out the oddest gear, from sushi thumbdrives to a USB ghost detector. It's still worth a spot in Gadget Buzz because of its rather strange and unrelated bonus--a scratch-and-sniff feature. Indeed, why tease your ears alone when you can work up two other senses by providing various "good" smells from the player and a 3D hologram. There are six fragrances to pick from, namely chocolate, rose, strawberry, lemon, cherry and blueberry. Verdict? Strangely scent-sational.

Amazing how every little bit of your notebook can be put to use, even that unused PC Card slot. Manufacturer Wireless Garden is offering a secret drawer which slots right into that empty space and can pack in any tiny amount of material. We're talking memory cards to stamps, to even emergency cash like that S$6 you'll probably need for your Latte while doing a little hotspot surfing at Starbucks. Nice.
