Chillow

Juniper Foo  |  Apr 07, 2005

Confession time. This particular journalist is a sucker for telly shopping gizmos, though it's been mostly passive rather than insane indulgence practiced here (one swears). Still, it's been tempting to whip out the credit card for the Chillow (chill + pillow, geddit?), considering how many times most of us have woken up in the middle of night, trying to find a cool spot on a too-warm pillow. According to its makers, the Chillow absorbs heat from your body and releases it into the air around you. All you need to activate it is to pour in 10 cups or 80oz of tap water, squeeze out the excess air, seal the valve, and voila. No batteries. No electricity. How cool is that? Canine owners, take note that there's a cooling pad for your mutts, too.

Price: US$29.95
Availability: Soothsoft
Device: Non-electric thermo-regulating pillow insert
Basic specs: N.A.

Glass Memorials

Juniper Foo  |  Apr 05, 2005

Here's something you won't see in land-scarce Singapore where the majority of our dearly departed reside in urns no bigger than a Shuttle CPU--yep, we're talking glass tombstones. And very pretty translucent ones, too. If you're rich or lucky enough to book a cemetery plot, this will guarantee you the eternal envy of your neighbors since Lundgren Monuments claims its graveyard markers are built to last far longer than ye old bones lying in that crypt, and will remain standing for more than 2,000 years. Though by then, nobody will remember or care.

Price: N.A.
Availability: Seattle, Lundgren Monuments
Device: Gravestones
Basic specs: Kiln-formed glass, 4 inches thick, mounted into stainless steel or bronze base

Gillette M3Power Razor

Juniper Foo  |  Apr 01, 2005

Commercials of Gillette's new razor shaving system have been buzzing on Singapore telly, and while this is probably of interest to those who sprout facial hair, it got our attention only because Beckham's a spokesperson. So what's the deal with the M3Power? Well, the battery-powered razor features pulsating and vibrating action. (Whatever you're thinking, forget it.) Gillette's successor to its popular Mach3 triple-blade razor sends pulses to the shaving cartridge, which then excites the hair enough to stand on end. This enables users to get, in Gillette's words, "the closest, most thorough shave with less irritation than ever". We're still hoping to get the men at CNETAsia to test its hair-raising properties. No takers, though.
