Goggle Lamps

Juniper Foo  |  Nov 22, 2004

If you're looking for matching interior decoration to go with your Philips Miravision, designer Ross Lovegrove's swimming goggles-inspired wall lamp is just as tricky. When it's off, the iridescent film on the lamp turns it into a mirror. Your guests can't help but eyeball the Goggle lamps, particularly when it changes colors depending on the angle. Pretty. Though our male colleages seem to have other less-than wholesome thoughts in mind.

Xmultiple USB FlashPoint

Juniper Foo  |  Nov 17, 2004

Now this is nifty, which has us wondering why we're still using conventional USB flash drives in Singapore. Xmultiple's USB FlashPoint completely does away with the PC or laptop, and mates with another FlashPoint to transfer files in secs. A tiny integrated battery powers the transfer while a female connector on the backside lets you plug in another device which it'll recognize. The catch: It'll copy only files stored in the Share directory, and won't sync data between drives. To recharge the batt, simply plug into a standard USB computer port.

Price: US$95.99
Availability: US
Device: USB Thumbdrive
Basic specs: 512MB for now, Mac and Win compatible

A4 Tech NB-30 BattryFREE wireless optical mouse

Juniper Foo  |  Nov 09, 2004

If a mouse is accurate and cordless, with long battery life, what more could you want? How about no battery? Once you get past doing a double take on the spelling of BattryFREE, the idea is pretty cool. The key to liberating this input device lies in a special USB mouse pad that is RFID-enabled, utilizing the principle of electromagnetic induction. What frees that rodent unfortunately also ties it down. So just don't ever lose that mouse pad.

Price: US$39.95
Availability: Online stores
Device: Wireless optical mouse
Basic specs: 1 25 x 16cm USB pad (RFID-enabled), USB connector, user's guide, big u-shaped wheel scroller, 2 status LED lights

Voltaic Solar Backpack

Juniper Foo  |  Nov 08, 2004

About time someone combined solar panels with a backpack into a portable solar powerhouse. This should find a ready market here with most Singaporeans already lugging backpacks as part of their street wear, and armed with a minimum of one cell phone, PDA, MP3 player and even a compact camera. While the panels may be waterproof, hopefully the same smart folks have included a rainhood for the Voltaic since it's about as pricey as that iPod it's charging up. A pity the solar backpack isn't capable of juicing up laptops, for now.
