Is that really a camera bag?

Most camera bags these days can hardly be said to be a fashion statement. Most look drab, though Crumpler has a couple that sport psychedelic colors. Still, at the end of the day, all these bags shout "I'm a camera bag!"

A photographer/blogger on Daily Relish saw the need for a more fashionable alternative, and worked on a line of bags for female photographers who want both style and function. According to her, it took two years of research including trials before she came up with the final design.

Casio debuts world's slimmest rugged shooter

Leonard Goh  |  Nov 19, 2009

So far, only Panasonic, Olympus, Fujifilm and Canon have tough cameras. But today, Casio joins the fray with the Exilim EX-G1. At 19.9mm thin, the company claims this to be the world's slimmest rugged point-and-shoot.

Aside from its hardy specifications (more below), one of the highlights of the G1 is its looks. Unlike the chunkier Olympus Mju Tough-8000 or the submarine-looking Canon PowerShot D10, the 12-megapixel Exilim sports a futuristic facade. The strong angular corners further accentuate the sci-fi styling.

Lightroom 2.6 beta supports RAW from new compact cameras

Adobe Systems released beta software on Wednesday to support RAW images from Canon's higher-end new compact cameras, the Powershot S90 and G11, Olympus' rival E-P2, Panasonic's FZ35, and a host of dSLRs.

The software updates are betas of Lightroom 2.6, the Camera RAW 5.6 plug-in for Photoshop CS4, and the DNG Converter 5.6. All the software uses the same RAW-image processing engine.

RAW images provide more flexibility and image quality but require more processing; typically only higher-end cameras support RAW file formats. Most folks are happy with JPEG, but many photography enthusiasts prefer RAW.

Cool tees for shutterbugs

Leonard Goh  |  Nov 18, 2009

I own a couple of camera/photography related tees, and I have to say they are some of my favorite wear. But looking at PetaPixel's collection of such clothing makes me want to hit the links and get a couple of them.

My favorite has to be this "oh, crop" design which takes a leaf out of Adobe Photoshop's Crop tool. The Camera Display Panel shirt looks pretty awesome, too, and I'm still trying to figure out which dSLR display it copies. Of course, there are plenty of t-shirts on the market now which have a camera hanging around the neck, but that's so passe.

Yashica EZ F521 is not a digital Holga, but it's close

I have a penchant for toy cameras, and it all started with the Lomo L-CA. I've since sold the Russian shooter, but I've held on to the Holga as a camera I really enjoy using despite its quirks--light leaks, soft images, plastic lens and total lack of control. But that's what I like about such low-tech snappers.

Previously I craved about the Yashica EZ F521 which from its toy-like facade, could very well be a digital twin to the Holga. After trying out the camera for a weekend, I have to say that the Yashica is close, but definitely not quaint enough to be a Holga.
