Garden Watch Cam keeps tabs on your green plot

If you watch nature documentaries, often there'll be scenes of flowers blooming or plants growing in quick time. Of course, those footage were accelerated, but don't you wish you could film your garden with the same results?

While the Brinno Garden Watch Cam won't instantly transform you into a documentary filmmaker, it does make for a good alternative for consumers who want to record the growth of their plants. The weather-resistant camera is clad in green to blend in discreetly with the surroundings, and there are two settings for picture taking. You can set the 1.3-megapixel shooter to snap an image every 1 minute or hour. The photographs are stored in the 2GB attached USB flash drive which you can plug into your computer to transfer the pictures.

Fujifilm 3D camera gets release date, price

When Fujifilm announced its first 3D point-and-shoot at the Photokina imaging tradeshow in Germany last year, we caught a glimpse of it and were quite impressed. The 6-megapixel camera looked set to change the way shutterbugs take and view pictures, but its bulky camera body left much to be desired.

However, at the PMA (Photo Marketing Association) Australia tradeshow held last month in Sydney, the Japanese company showcased a more streamlined and stylish version of the 3D camera. Our colleagues at CNET Australia have the lowdown on this camera here.

According to tech blog Engadget, the Real 3D will cost US$600 at launch in September. Considering that you will need specialized hardware such as a 3D printer and monitor to output and view the pictures, we don't expect mainstream consumers to take to this shooter anytime soon. But we have to applaud Fujifilm for its attempt to revolutionize the imaging industry.

We have contacted Fujifilm Singapore for more information and possibly to get a test unit on the redesigned point-and-shoot, so keep a lookout for it on CNET Asia.

Chasercam tracks hardcore extreme sports tricks

If you're a hardcore extreme sportsman, nothing beats reliving your glorious moment of conquering that towering wave or doing three 360-degree flips in the air on your BMX. However, you need a good cameraman to follow your movements and not be distracted by that cute girl at the spectator stand.

The Chasecam designed by Bastian Albinus will solve these woes. All you have to do is stick the sensor target onto somewhere prominent on yourself and activate the camera unit. When turned on, the shooter will actively seek out the target. Once it locks onto the subject, the Chasecam will continue to track its target as it moves around within the frame.

Sony's HD flash camcorders track your location via GPS

Though it's not quite a year since Sony announced the HDR-CX12 flash-memory-based AVCHD camcorder, it looks like it's time for a replacement. With a six month lag behind their hard-drive based siblings, the HDR-XR500V and HDR-XR520V, the HDR-CX500V, and the HDR-CX520V promise some much-needed enhancements over their solid-but-flawed brothers.

Button camera makes spying easier

Leonard Goh  |  Jul 09, 2009

Yesterday, we reported on fabric-like cameras which MIT researchers have developed. However, that invention has yet to be commercialized, so the closest we think you can get to taking pictures with your clothes is this Spy Button camera.

Japanese gadget maker Thanko has came up with a non-obtrusive shooter which looks like a button. Just slip it between the slits of your shirt's buttons and you're good to go. For added measures, Thanko is including a magnetic ring which can activate the Spy Button camera when placed near to the shooter so you can start videotaping or snapping shots even more discreetly. However, Thanko's site made no mention whether the same ring can be used to stop movie recording or switch the camera off.
