Admittedly, CompactFlash cards are no longer as popular as they were when digital photography first started. These days, most digicams use SD/SDHC media, while mobile phones mainly accept the physically smaller microSD format for storing data.
This is why I am puzzled as to the reason that PhotoFast has conceived the CR-7200, a CompactFlash card adapter capable of holding four microSD cards and combining their storage space. Given that the maximum a microSD card can now hold is 16GB, the CR-7200's capacity would be capped at 64GB.

The Lumix DMC-G1 is one of the camera that has an updated firmware available. (Credit: Panasonic)
Panasonic has released new firmwares for several of its Lumix cameras. The updates have one specific task--to prevent consumers from using third-party batteries on the camera. According to the Japanese firm, this is because some of these juice packs were not manufactured according to Panasonic's safety standards and may overcharge, heat up easily or short-circuit and damage the battery.
To protect its users, the company has released firmware updates on its Web site to allow Lumix owners to download and perform the update themselves. But before you commence to upgrade the firmware, remember to read and follow the instructions carefully.
For shutterbugs who are using third-party batteries, do note that Panasonic will not honor the warranty if your camera is damaged due to use of unauthorized accessories.
Leaf sells medium-format cameras, digital-sensor camera backs, and Leaf Capture photography software. The latter two products, but not necessarily the first, will live on under Phase One management.

A new tremor on Thursday traversed a photography world already shaken up by the arrival of digital technology as Phase One, a Copenhagen-based company that caters to professional photographers. The firm announced a plan to acquire some high-end photography assets from Eastman Kodak.
To nobody's surprise, Kodak wound down its 35mm Kodachrome film product on Monday. In the rarefied realm of medium-format photography where film sizes are much larger, and the demand for quality is much higher, the change to the digital era has been equally jarring.
Phase One, though, was digital from the outset, and it's become a force for consolidation in the digital medium-format photography market. The company announced its plan to acquire technology and hire employees from Kodak's Leaf medium-format brand just months after taking control of Japanese medium-format camera maker Mamiya. Most cameras these days come with some form of image stabilizer, whether it's optical or sensor-shift. However, these implementations have limitations. Taking shots with a telephoto lens extended fully or on a boat in choppy waters will amplify hands hakes that result in blurred images.
The Tyler Minigyro is meant for photographers who shoot from moving vehicles such as boats, cars and even helicopters. Given that these modes of transportation usually vibrate a fair bit (and even more on rough terrains), you'll need a pretty good stabilizing system to get a clear shot of your subject.
The Minigyro is handheld and has an adjustable handle for shooting in various positions as well as a quick release mounting plate for speedy assembly. There are four Brute Gyro wheels which compensate for the motion as determined by the sensors in the device.
It appears that the Minigyro is not for sale on Tyler Mount's Web site, but it is available for rent. Rates can go from US$400 to US$1,600, depending on the rental duration.
Sigma on Tuesday released another firmware update to its high-end compact camera, the 14-megapixel DP2, which became available in February.
Version 1.02 adds several updates to the camera. For one, improvements have been made to auto focus. When using the manual focus, the magnification display function can be selected by just pressing the OK button. Sigma has issued a Notice of Function Change amending the information in the user's guide based on the functionality the new firmware allows. Read more »
