An upgrade to the X720, the new X725 will be available in countries in Asia, where BenQ still retains a digital camera presence. Fixed up with a 7.2-megapixel Panasonic CCD sensor and a Pentax lens with 3x optical zoom, the X725 is compatible with both SD and SDHC cards.

According to BenQ, the X725 will be available in Thailand in July at an estimated retail price of US$259.
A BenQ Malaysia spokesperson confirmed that the X725 will be launched in May in Malaysia. |
Compared to the X720, the X725 has a higher maximum ISO setting (ISO 1250 compared to ISO 800) and offers 22 more scene modes. However, unlike digital cameras with a built-in mechanical image stabilizer, the X725 uses what it calls the Super Shake-Free system which tries to correct motion blur by increasing the camera’s light sensitivity and thus the shutter speed, which is somewhat similar to Fujifilm’s solution.
The X725 will be available in black, red, pear and silver.

BenQ seems to be in the mood to launch things on the sly. The T700 offers most of the features on the X725, minus some stuff such as less ISO options though it does have a bigger 3-inch screen.

The larger LCD is touchscreen as well and BenQ makes good use of it with a tap-to-enlarge feature that literally centers and magnifies a picture at the point where it is pressed on. The Taiwanese manufacturer also included photo frame and stamp options that can be activated with a finger tip. Like the X725, the T700 also comes with the same Super Shake-Free feature.

Pandigital has announced it will begin shipping its 15-inch model, the PAN-150, on April 18, for a retail price of US$299. Sorry, you can't connect a computer to this monitor-sized LCD, but the frame is a 1024 x 768-pixel high-resolution display and it does have an integrated 6-in-1 media reader (SD, XD, Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro/Memory Stick Duo, Compact Flash, MMC), as well as 256MB of internal memory. You can also download photos directly onto the frame by connecting your camera or computer via the USB port. While there's no built-in DVD player, you can watch MPEG-1, MPEG-4, and AVI video clips, as well as listen to MP3 files via the built-in stereo speakers.
I gave an earlier, 8-inch Pandigital frame decent marks, so I have high expectations for the company's next-gen models. We can only hope these frames would arrive in Asia soon.

Only a few years ago, Crave spent more than US$1,000 for a 1-megapixel camera that weighed more than a brick. Today, we'd probably be lucky to get US$25 for it on Craigslist.
With the price of digital cameras dropping like broadcast celebrities, it makes sense that manufacturers try whatever they can to separate themselves from the pack, catering to specific types of consumers. But real estate agents?
"RealPIX" is a camera designed specifically for agents and homeowners in need of a quick snapshot that captures as much of a house as possible in a single frame. It accomplishes this with a lens that's wider than that of most other cameras, according to Electronista. But with no zoom and a resolution of only 0.3-megapixel, the $299 price seems awfully high. Unless, of course, the subject is a house that should not be seen that closely.

At press time, we did not have information on the Duo's availability in Asia.
|
In an apparent nod to youth's demand for choice, the Duo will come in three colors, and better yet, will include "an interactive, customizable computer program enabling the user to monitor the charger's progress on the computer screen". The Energizer Duo carries a suggested retail price of US$13.99 and ships with two AAA 900mAh NiMH batteries.
While it was announcing the Duo, Energizer also trotted out a new Family Charger, a jumbo dock that recharges just about every battery type under the sun. Energizer says it can juice up to eight AAA, eight AA, two 9V, four C and four D batteries at once. That's impressive capacity, but you don't get any batteries with the charger, which carries a list price for US$29.99.
