Stealth launch: Casio EX-Z8

Edvarcl Heng  |  Sep 07, 2007

This is the fifth camera that Casio is announcing this fall. However, number five seems to lack the PR publicity that the Japanese firm had allocated to the earlier four.

While Casio gave us few details, it's plain to see that the EX-Z8 is meant as a replacement for the EX-Z75. And like the previous quartet, the 8-megapixel Z8 will have a YouTube video capture mode (low-res) and upload software.

A Casio Singapore spokesperson reported that the EX-Z8 will not be retailing in the island republic.

Casio lets YouShoot and YouTube your videos

Edvarcl Heng  |  Sep 06, 2007

Casio's new compact camera is lauding YouTube, and it's not necessarily a strange thing since digital stills and videos are becoming increasingly common bedfellows in most electronic devices.

The deal

The Japanese camera maven also announced an agreement with YouTube the same time it launched the EX-S880. Casio calls this its effort to directly engage the YouTube community. We took that as a hint that there's a viral video of the EX-S880 running round on the video-sharing site, but we were wrong.

Casio overclocks camera with 60fps shooting rate

Damian Koh  |  Sep 02, 2007

Drats, we totally missed the press conference yesterday when some lucky folks got upclose with Casio's new prototype camera. Now, we can catch it only from outside a transparent box since the company wasn't exactly for the idea of freeing the shooter from its cage. What a bummer. Initial specs point to a 6-megapixel CMOS sensor, 60fps burst rate (increases to 300fps when you drop to VGA-resolution), 12x optical zoom, 2.8-inch 230K-pixel LCD and CMOS-shift optical image stabilization. While you're at it, you might want to check out LG's KU990 camera-phone with a 120fps burst mode as well. First it was the megapixel race. Now it's about who can shoot faster. Don't these guys have better things to do?

Two new Casio cameras enters the fray

Edvarcl Heng  |  Aug 28, 2007

The early announcement of the EX-S880 and the EX-Z77 in July struck us as a little lacking. Just two? For the rest of the year? That's a little unbelievable.

So it's good to know that the Japanese firm is not satisfied with its meager offering. The appearance of the two new Exilims--the EX-Z1080 and EX-V8--comes near the tail end of the camera launch rush the past two weeks. Perhaps Casio is hoping to create more of an impact at a time when most camera brands are running out of steam?

The EX-Z1080 and the EX-V8 are the successors to the EX-Z1050 and the EX-V7, respectively. However, in terms of new features, the cameras bring precious little to the table. The EX-V8 adds a mere megapixel bump up (7.2 to 8.1 megapixels), while the EX-Z1080 gets an increased light sensitivity of up to ISO 6,400.

Last gasp: New Casio camera?

Edvarcl Heng  |  Aug 28, 2007

Like the unintentional leak of the Sony Cyber-shot H3 just days before its announcement, Casio may be facing the same with possibly a new camera--the Casio Exilim EX-Z1080.

Based on its technical specs, it is clearly the successor to the Casio Exilim EX-Z1050. And like the two cameras announced earlier, the EX-Z1080 will pack the same YouTube video capture mode. Key differences between the two cameras include a marginally larger LCD (2.6-inch vs 2.5-inch) and the inclusion of Face Detection technology.

The Walmart Web site lists three colors for the EX-Z1080: Black, pink and purple.
