An ErgoMotion mouse a day keeps wrist pains away

Matt Hickey  |  Nov 25, 2009

I switched from mice to trackpads and trackballs years ago after my wrist started getting all janky on me after a few hours a day of work. That's because see-saw mouses like SmartFish Technologies' ErgoMotion laser mouse didn't exist back then.

I honestly can't remember the last time I sent something using conventional mail, but it may have been more than three years ago. I hate licking stamps and envelopes and risking a paper cut in one of the worst places I can imagine. But after spotting these Mmmvelope bacon-flavored envelopes from "bacontrepreneurs" J&D's, I might start looking for reasons to send random stuff out. And for as little as three packs of 25 for US$14.99, I can send a lot.

Tweet your weight daily with Wi-Fi Body Scale

Matt Hickey  |  Nov 12, 2009

It even looks good. (Credit: Withings)

You take a scale. You give it Wi-Fi. And then you let it log in to your Twitter account to tell the world how much you weigh each morning. That's what this is: The Wi-Fi Body Scale.

At first it sounds silly, but the more I think about it the more I like the idea. If I'm trying to lose weight, this is a good way to force me to watch what I eat lest I embarrass myself in front of my Twitter followers. If it shows me blowing up like a whale instead of dropping pounds then I don't just know I'm doing something wrong, my peers do, too. Shame can be a powerful tool.

Belly belt with built-in speakers for mums-to-be

Matt Hickey  |  Nov 07, 2009

(Credit: Lullabelly)

I do not have kids. At this point it's looking unlikely that I ever will. And that might be a good thing for everyone involved, because I'm a horrible person. At least I do horrible things.

Take the Lullabelly, the Buzz Report's Gadget of the Week. It's a prenatal music belt with a built-in speaker that will play music to your baby in the womb. An expectant mother puts an iPod, smartphone, CD player, etc., into the belt's compartment and plugs it in to play soothing music for her baby. The idea is that nine months of this makes the baby smarter. I buy the theory, but I'm not the type to do things the right way.

If I had the Lullabelly I would not load it up with Mozart. I would not bombard my unborn baby with Bach or Beethoven. If I had a Lullabelly it would offer a brand new use for my 2GB of Slayer MP3s. My baby would be the toughest baby on the block.

But that's me. I'm sure responsible parents would actually use this as intended in hopes that they bear pitch-perfect offspring. There's actual science behind the idea, after all. So I'm not discounting the product, I'm just saying it's maybe not for everybody. Like me.

The Lullabelly comes in several polka dot patterns and sells in standard and deluxe packages (US$49 and US$55, respectively). The former includes a speaker for the baby only and the latter tosses in a dual earphone adapter and earphones with volume control for Mom.

Motorola Droid "Stealth" commercial

Matt Hickey  |  Nov 04, 2009

The always-impressive Boy Genius Report has gotten its hands on a copy of Verizon and Google's newest commercial for the Droid (its GSM cousin is the Milestone). The commercial's called Stealth, and it's rather amazing, even though it doesn't tell us much about the Motorola handset that's set to drop Friday.

Mysterious and well-shot, the commercial should start running on TV this week, according to BGR. We're guessing you'll see it first during Tuesday night's premiere of "V" on ABC, or maybe during the World Series. With something this high budget you'd expect Verizon to put it in front of as many eyes as possible. We'll be watching the skies on November 6.
