The
Acer Aspire 8900 series is impressive. Despite an affordable price tag of just under S$3,500 (US$2,519.98), it offers quad-core performance and a high-end graphics card, not to mention a full-HD panel and a Blu-ray writer. The latest addition to the family, the Aspire 8940G, ups the ante further by offering the latest Core i7 processor and Nvidia graphics card.
Though the
Core i7 chip has only two cores, performance-wise, it trumps the current crop of Core 2 Duo
, Core 2 Quad and Core 2 Extreme mobile processors in the market. Moreover, the former is the first Intel chip to come with built-in overclocking that speeds up the performance by consuming more power. Key features include:
1.6GHz Intel Core i7 720QM processor
4GB RAM
18.4-inch full-HD display
500GB HDD
Blu-ray writer
Nvidia GeForce GTS 250M graphics card
802.11n, Gigabit Ethernet and Bluetooth connectivity
Five USB, HDMI, eSATA ports and memory card reader
The Acer Aspire 8940G will be out later this month in Asia at US$1,349.99.

"Though the Core i7 chip has only two cores" ; the current i7 mobile lineup has 4 cores with HT. Just that 720 QM has 6M L3 cache whereas the 820 and the 920XM have 8M L3. Turbo overclocks the processor by shutting off unused cores and overclocking the rest in case of poorly threaded workloads maintaining the SAME TDP. ie. IT DOES NOT CONSUME more power or generate more heat
