Laptop stands are a dime a dozen. In fact, most of them are little more than pieces of plastic that prop the notebook up to improve air circulation. Fortunately, the Choiix Air Through Stash Notebook Cooling Pad does more than that.

First and foremost, this device is a cooling pad with an 80mm fan to reduce the temperature of your portable. With 320 x 230 x 50mm dimensions, it can support up to 15-inch laptops. Second, it is a three-port USB hub with--and this is the killer feature--an integrated bay that can hold a 2.5-inch SATA notebook hard drive. We like the fact that the hub and harddisk require only one USB port for data and another for power, which eliminates the need for an external AC source. However, this also means the bandwidth is shared, so linking multiple drives via the USB hub will probably result in slow transfer speeds. In any case, with two USB ports feeding only 5V of power each, we do not advise plugging in multiple power-draining peripherals via the USB hub.

The Choiix Air Through Stash Notebook Cooling Pad is available through distributors for S$59 (US$41.90) and comes in a choice of white or black.
