Lenovo Enhanced Experience runs Windows 7 faster

Darius Chang  |  Oct 20, 2009

Microsoft claims that Windows 7 runs significantly faster than its predecessor, Vista. However, Lenovo is taking it one step further by becoming the only vendor to receive Microsoft's Windows 7 Enhanced Experience certification which promises even faster bootup/shutdown and resume times than other manufacturers.

One of the bottlenecks during Windows startup is that drivers and background applications have to be initialized. By tweaking the boot order, it allows the machine to leave drivers for non-essential gear such as a USB Webcam to load after wireless and chipset ones. Moreover, the Chinese maker claims that by reducing the loading time of component drivers, it also makes, resume from sleep mode significantly quicker than its competitors. According to Lenovo, its machines bootup and shutdown times are up to 33 percent and 50 percent faster, respectively, after the enhancement. The Enhanced Experience also includes the company's proprietary backup and maintenance programs such as its ThinkVantage application suite.

Not all Lenovo machines will come with the Enhanced Experience certification. Only compatible laptops will sport the unique Lenovo Enhanced Experience logo, and the first PCs with these stickers are in the table below.

IdeaPad Y650 IdeaCentre A600 ThinkPad R500 ThinkCentre A58
IdeaPad Y550 IdeaCentre H230 ThinkPad X200 ThinkCentre M58
IdeaPad Y550p IdeaCentre K300 ThinkPad X200s ThinkCentre M58e
IdeaPad Y450 G550 ThinkPad X200 tablet ThinkCentre M58p
IdeaPad U550 G450 ThinkPad X301 ThinkStation S10
IdeaPad U450 ThinkPad T400 ThinkPad W500 ThinkStation S20
IdeaPad U450p ThinkPad T400s ThinkPad W700 ThinkStation D10
IdeaPad U350 ThinkPad T500 ThinkPad SL410 ThinkStation D20
IdeaPad U150 ThinkPad R400 ThinkPad SL510

The Chinese maker claims the Enhanced Experience is exclusive to its machines and will not appear, at least in this form, on other vendors' PCs. Current systems upgrading to Windows 7 will enjoy some of the Enhanced Experience benefits, but only PCs which come preinstalled with the upcoming operating system and Enhanced Experience logo will have the full experience. This is because while existing computers will be able to download the optimized Windows 7 drivers and BIOS, only brand-new laptops will receive additional tweaks to specific hardware configuration and third-party preloaded applications.
