Intel dual-core CULV laptop chips to come soon

Intel's CPU monkeys have been working overtime recently, and have come up with a new range of dual-core processors designed to give super-skinny, lightweight laptops some extra grunt.

According to The Register, the forthcoming dual-core Consumer Ultra Low Voltage range will replace all the single-core CULV offerings. The SU3xxx and SU2xxx series (where xxx is the chip number) will pass the baton to the SU4xxx and SU7xxx dual-core chips, and the cheapo single-core Celeron 7xx will share its limelight with a new dual-core SU2xxx. The existing SU9xxx Core 2 Duo chips will continue at the top of the range for thin-and-light laptops.

This is pretty good news, since we weren't particularly impressed by the initial batch of CULV chips in laptops such as the MSI X340 or the forthcoming Toshiba Satellite T110 and T130. The only bad news is that anyone hankering after a CULV laptop today should probably wait until the dual-core range arrives.

If you're in a real hurry to buy something now--and you don't mind looking like a complete poser -- you might want to consider the Acer Ferrari One, whose AMD L310 CPU is surprisingly agile.
