Panasonic has developed a full-HD 3D plasma panel and high-precision active shutter glasses for the consumer market. The 50-inch prototype will be unveiled at the Ceatec Japan 2009 tradeshow which takes place from October 6 to 10. It features a new high-speed 3D drive and crosstalk reduction technology to maximize brightness as well as reduced image ghosting for rendering sharp and clear three-dimensional pictures.
The complete Panasonic solution, dubbed 3D theater system, comprises a 3D Blu-ray Disc played back through a compatible player, plasma panel and shutter glasses. These components are designed based on a full-HD x 2 frame-sequential video processing that displays alternate left- and right-eyed 3D images. The footages recorded from a stereoscopic camera are then combined through the glasses.
With Panasonic's accelerated research in this field, it is hoping to launch its mass 3D products for the Japanese, European and the US markets by next year. This is subjected to approval from the Blu-ray Disc Association.
