How does S$2,299 (US$1,655.27) sound for a 40-inch LED-backlit LCD TV? Given that a similar-size LED-edgelit panel from Samsung will cost at least S$3,499 (US$2,519.26), the
Sharp Aquos LC-40LE700M certainly comes across as a steal.
Best part is, the Sharp HDTV is no slouch in terms of features, either. Besides offering a high 2 million:1 dynamic contrast, it is also equipped with 100Hz motion enhancement and four HDMI inputs. This model also features Sharp's latest X-Gen panel which promises deeper black and brighter white as well as a "Crystalucent" technology for better backlight uniformity and overall picture clarity.
According to Sharp's spokesperson, another variation of the LED-lit TV--the Aquos LC-40LB700M--may be introduced in late October or early November. The panel will deliver all the above-mentioned capabilities (sans an HDMI port), plus a built-in Blu-ray/DVD/CD player with BD-Live support. Other enhancements include SRS TruSurround HD sound processing, InstaPort for faster HDMI input synchronization and a proprietary video dejuddering function. The price remains attractive at a tentative S$2,799 (US$2,015.26).
The only catch for both panels is that they will not come with the highly sought-after local dimming function. The Sharp Aquos LC-40LE700M is now retailing in Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia & Indonesia.
