StarHub was the first pay TV provider in Singapore to offer HD content with the introduction of its National Geographic HD and Discovery HD channels in early 2007. However unlike the competing SingTel MioTV, the telecommunication giant didn't offer Hollywood blockbusters in high resolutions. But from October 1, StarHub will be rolling out HBO in HD (channel 602) which offers commercial-free movies and serials with enhanced sound and visuals in widescreen format.
HBO in HD is available free to the company's HBO Pak subscribers. However, as this new HD channel is offered only as part of the HBO Pak bundle, customers will have to sign up and upgrade to the package for a monthly fee of S$17.12 (US$12.33) and S$4.28 (US$3.08), respectively. To encourage current HBO subscribers to switch over, StarHub is sweetening the deal with an upgrade waiver for the first three months in October. Refer to the
official press release here for more information.
