If you demand round-the-clock worldwide access to your multimedia files and office documents, you'll need a Web-ready network-attached storage or NAS. One of the latest entries is the Netgear Stora slated for November launch throughout Asia Pacific. The Stora not only offers an Ethernet port and DLNA-compatibility for network playback with computers and media players, it also allows remote streaming via the Internet to your mobile gadgets and laptops.
Other interesting features include automatic data backup (RAID 1) using a secondary hard drive, as well as an onboard USB port that supports printers and external storages for archival purpose. More importantly, Netgear is promising a plug-and-play installation and is differentiating its NAS with Facebook, iTunes, Flickr, YouTube and Picasa integration. However, these social-networking services and its Web streaming capability will require an annual US$19.99 subscription, though a 30-day free trial is bundled in the package. The Stora will be available in a 1TB kit for S$469 (US$337.68).
