SAN FRANCISCO--One usually doesn't go to a geekfest like the
Intel Developer Forum for celebrity spotting, as the Las Vegas-based Consumer Electronics Show is wont to do. But this Fall round, the chipmaker had a surprise in store. At day three's keynote on "The Architecture of CE Innovation", both speakers on stage had their backs to the audience for a good 5 minutes, before actor
LeVar Burton turned around. In case you're not familiar with the name, that's lieutenant commander Geordi La Forge of
Star Trek: The Next Generation to Trekkies, minus his trademark visor.

Burton was there to open the keynote on the future of digital TV, and to boldly go where no one has gone before. In this case, it was a concept demonstration of technologies for the TV either available today or within the next 12 months. Though one reckons that had Intel gotten
Voyager's Borg diva
Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan) in her skintight catsuit, that would have set off more geek cameras snapping, and resistance would indeed have been futile.
