With the impending Windows Mobile 6.5 (WM6.5) update on October 6, we should be seeing quite a number of new handsets from various manufacturers soon. According to UK-based online retailer Clove Technology, Acer will be releasing the F1 smartphone on that day. Now, we have seen this product previously and even had a hands-on with it during Computex Taipei in June. Till now though, the official name has always been unconfirmed but Clove has simply listed it as the Acer F1--no change from what was supposed to be merely a codename.
What's really interesting is the price, just 295 pounds (about US$480) before subsidies. That's really inexpensive for a WM6.5 smartphone with a 1GHz processor, 3.8-inch WVGA display and HSPA connectivity. In comparison, the Samsung Omnia II which comes with somewhat similar features (albeit a slower processor) goes for over US$600 unlocked. We have contacted Acer for its availability in Asia. The official word is that something will be announced soon, but more details will be given only at a later date. Watch this space as we bring you more information when it happens.
