LG debuts new widescreen multimedia laptops

LG unveiled its new WIDEBOOK notebook lineup of five models that feature 16:9 HD LED-backlit displays and Intel Core 2 Duo processors for home entertainment.

The WIDEBOOK lineup--ES, LG's marketing department is SCREAMING at you--offers five models: The 15.6-inch R580 and R560; the 14-inch R480 and R460 and the 13.3-inch R380.

Here's the split: The R580 and R480 are "stylish" premium models, the R560 and R460 are "everyday workhorses" and the R380 straddles the line between value and performance.

Your eyes can expect 1,600 x 900 and 1,368 x 768 HD pixel resolutions on the power-saving LED-backlit WIDEBOOK displays, and your ears can expect SRS TruSurround HD sound.

The premium R580 notebook is the only to include a Blu-ray drive out of the box.

Along with Intel Core 2 Duo processors, the notebooks have 2GB or 4GB of memory and NVIDIA GeForce graphics chips with up to 1GB of DDR2 video memory.

LG says:
According to tests using 3DMark06, these graphics subsystems offer between three and six times the performance of Intel's GMA X4500MHD chipset.

The R380 model offers a "Smart On" feature that enables it to boot in five seconds for quick access to a web browser, messenger, game, photo viewer or music player.

All models include a 3G modem chipset (GSM, GPRS, EDGE, UMTS or HSDPA networks), a 1.3-megapixel webcam, an eSATA port, HDMI port and on the outside, UV coatings.

The premium R580 and R480 models also include a row of backlit blue shortcut buttons.

The R580, R560, R480 and R460 come in white or black. LG says it designed the R380 for the youth market, and offers it in an additional pink color.

The LG R380 and R580 are already available in Asia, with the other models to be available later this month.
